Wolves: O’Neil’s £15k-p/w titan was the hero along side Neto vs Luton

Wolverhampton Wanderers would have earmarked their fixture against Luton Town as a great opportunity to grab three points, but that ambition was prematurely blunted when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was shown a straight red card inside 39 minutes.

While the Old Gold were anticipating their goal being peppered, they actually took the lead early into the second half as in-form Pedro Neto scored a brilliant solo goal to give his side a lead to defend.

Unfortunately, that lead was soon undone as Luton were awarded a controversial penalty for a handball. Joao Gomes blocked a shot with his foot and the ball ricocheted onto his hand, leaving many in disbelief after Carlton Morris calmly converted the resulting spot kick.

The laws of the game state that "no handball offence should be called on a player if the ball is previously deflected from his own body", justifying the exasperation in journalist Oliver Kay's tweet.

While Wolves were left disgruntled after coming away with a 1-1 draw against Luton, Neto can hold his head high after continuing his excellent start to the season.

How did Pedro Neto play vs Luton?

There aren't many better sights in the Premier League than seeing a fully fit Pedro Neto performing at his best but after coming out on top against his several battles with injury, the scintillating Portuguese winger has returned in full flow to help Wolves in their battle against relegation.

Having previously been lauded by Alan Shearer as a "huge talent", the 23-year-old is producing the sensational performances that back up Shearer's point, tearing past defenders with his searing pace and ball-carrying skills.

The only chink in his armour previously was his end product but having created more chances than any other player in the Premier League season, Neto is now serving up quality in the final third to go with his outstanding build-up play as showcased by his brilliant solo goal today.

While the £50k per-week phenom performed admirably, dragging his team through the match after going down to ten men, he wasn't the only success story to come from this match as Max Kilman proved his worth and some in defence.

How did Max Kilman perform vs Luton?

The towering, £15k-per-week defender has established himself at the heart of the Wolves back line, becoming one of their stand-out performers so far this season in a defensive capacity, putting his body on the line for his team and making last-ditch tackles.

After seeing Bellegarde get sent off, Gary O'Neil needed every bit of that defensive grit and determination as the 26-year-old stepped up to the plate and ultimately helped his side record a point on the board after thwarting a barrage of opposition attacks.

Max Kilman

The defensive titan was a colossus at the back and was determined to not lose any battle in his war to prevent Jose Sa from being breached, winning an outstanding ten of his 11 aerial duels, all of his six ground duels, making three tackles and seven clearances, as per SofaScore.

Kilman didn't just showcase his ability to become a warrior in a defensive sense, the Englishman rose up to the occasion when asked to play out from the back and was a real threat in Luton's box at corners, recording an xG of 0.40, successfully completing his two dribbles and 72% of his passes – most of which were sent long as Wolves looked to play on the counter.

As far as defensive performances go, this was a complete one from the 6 foot 3 brute, who continues to demonstrate his worth under the tutelage of O'Neil.

New Zealand women have included the uncapped pair of Kate Heffernan and Lauren Down for the home series against West Indies in March. Heffernan, an 18-year-old left-arm seamer, has found a place in the 13-member T20I squad while Down, a 22-year-old batsman, is part of the ODI squad.”Both Kate and Lauren are impressive athletes in their own right and will definitely bring that dynamic edge that we’re looking for,” said Haidee Tiffen, New Zealand’s coach.”The fact that Kate is a left-armer was certainly a factor in her selection as she will bring that point of difference. We see an immense amount of potential in Kate, particularly as we look ahead a bit further to a World Cup in New Zealand in 2021.”Lauren’s been on our radar for a while in both formats and we also think she’s one for the future. She’s explosive with the bat and is a terrific fielder across the park.”Kate Ebrahim has returned to the ODI squad while Natalie Dodd and Hayley Jensen have come back into the T20I squad.Katie Perkins has missed out on selection, having had limited game-time since suffering a broken thumb in December, while the legspinner Erin Bermingham, who has taken an indefinite break from cricket, was unavailable for selection.”Erin’s been a terrific servant to the team for a long time and made important contributions on and off the field,” Tiffin said. “She’s a great team-player and we will miss having her around the group.”The three-match ODI series begins on March 4 in Christchurch. This will be followed by a five-match T20I series, which starts on March 14 in Tauranga.

West Ham Could Sign "Incredible" £35m Paqueta Partner In Late Swoop

West Ham United are one of the many clubs preparing for a deadline day full of thrills, as manager David Moyes considers his options to brace his squad for the campaign ahead.

After receiving £105m for the sale of Declan Rice, the Hammers have spent wisely so far, with pointers identifying another target that the east Londoners could chase before the window slams shut.

Who could West Ham sign on deadline day?

It’s speculated that Moyes is looking for another forward to assist Michail Antonio through the season, after sanctioning the sale of Gianluca Scamacca earlier in the summer.

A name identified is that of Youssef En-Nesyri, with the Daily Mail naming the Sevilla striker as an option for the Hammers to consider.

Elsewhere, it's thought the LaLiga outfit value the Moroccan at €40m (£35m), with his current contract running until 2025.

How good is Youssef En-Nesyri?

Once lauded as “incredible” by Moyes himself in a column for the Times during the 2022 World Cup, it’s clear that the Scot is an admirer of the 26-year-old poacher.

The forward scored 18 goals in all competitions for Sevilla last season, including four in the Europa League to assist his side to their win in the competition, scoring twice against Manchester United to make the headlines in England, via Transfermarkt.

Now, the Morocco international with 61 caps could be handed an opportunity to play in the Premier League at West Ham, with him having all the attributes to add further threat in the final third to Moyes’ side.

Youssef En-Nesyri

Previously hailed as a “clinical poacher” by analyst Cal Goodall, the Morocco striker could be the missing link to the Irons unleashing Lucas Paqueta’s true form, with the intricate forward having the ability to link well with the Brazilian.

Signing in east London last summer, Paqueta impressed in his first season in the Premier League, netting four goals and registering three assists in his debut campaign in England.

His numbers were encouraging, and if anything a signal of what could be to come, with him scoring nine and assisting six the year prior in Ligue 1 for Olympique Lyon.

In signing a forward of the quality of En-Nesyri, the Brazilian could find further sanctuary in the squad, by being able to exert his talents to a player ahead of him to elevate the options in front of goals.

As per FBref, Paqueta averaged 1.34 key passes per 90 last season, a figure that was a slight decline from his averages in France, where he recorded 1.37 key passes in 2021/22, and 1.74 key passes per 90 in 2020/21 in Ligue 1.

The Brazilian could hit his best numbers if paired with the club’s reported target, who was previously identified by scouting site Breaking the Lines as being a figure that ‘rarely stands still’.

The Moroccan was also described as having significant pace, with a playing style that encourages space to be created for ‘other forwards and midfielders’, a dynamic to his game that could particularly benefit the likes of Paqueta.

Moyes could finally add the striker he’s been yearning for since last season by making a late swoop for En-Nesyri on deadline day, in a signing that could bolster his attack and those already at the club.

Leicester Could Sign ‘Prolific’ £15m Daka Upgrade At King Power

Leicester City endured a bitterly disappointing 2022/23 campaign as they were relegated from the Premier League and they are now preparing for at least one season in the Championship.

Who have Leicester City signed this summer?

The Foxes have moved swiftly to make four new additions to their squad in order to bring the feel-good factor back to the King Power following the arrival of Enzo Maresca in the dugout.

Harry Winks, Conor Coady, and Mads Hermansen have all been brought in on permanent deals, whilst a defender in Callum Doyle has joined on a season-long loan from top-flight champions Manchester City.

A centre-forward also appears to be on the agenda for the club before the summer transfer window slams shut as they have been linked with Swansea star Joel Piroe.

How much would Joel Piroe cost this summer?

Football Insider recently reported that it would take a fee of at least £15m, and possibly up to £20m, to snap the lethal Dutchman up from the Welsh outfit, amid interest from Leeds United and Southampton.

If Leicester believe that they need a consistent scorer in order to fire them back to the Premier League then that could end up being a bargain price as the 23-year-old ace has proven himself to be a phenomenal striker at Championship level.

He could arrive at the King Power as a big upgrade on current striker Patson Daka for Maresca, based on their respective form over the last two seasons.

The current Foxes forward scored four goals in 30 top-flight appearances last term and that came after he managed five strikes in 23 league outings during his debut campaign in England.

Leicester striker Patson Daka.

This means that the Zambia international has found the back of the net nine times in 53 league matches for Leicester to date, which is one goal every 5.89 outings on average, and the club may not be able to afford to wait for him to find his feet this season as any points dropped could be vital in the race for promotion.

How many goals has Joel Piroe scored for Swansea?

Piroe, on the other hand, is coming off the back of two exceptional seasons with Swansea in the second tier.

During the 2022/23 campaign, the left-footed finisher scored 19 goals in 43 games and averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.99, which would have placed him third within the Foxes squad – albeit at a higher level.

That came after the "prolific" – as he was dubbed by EFL YouTuber Benjamin Bloom – striker plundered an eye-catching 22 goals in 45 league battles throughout the previous season, which was his first year in England.

The Swans marksman, who is a year younger than Daka, has proven himself to be a consistent and reliable scorer at Championship level, so his arrival could provide Maresca's side with a significant boost in their efforts to return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

joel-piroe-swansea-championship-southampton-transfers

Daka is yet to prove himself to be someone who the head coach can lean on to produce goals on a regular basis, whereas Piroe would come in as a striker who could hit the ground running and be the focal point for the Italian head coach's team through the middle.

Therefore, the ex-Manchester City assistant could improve his strike force by winning the race to sign the hotshot before the deadline passes.

West Brom: Journalist Shares Big Transfer Twist

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Alex Palmer's move to Luton Town has now stalled as journalist Alan Nixon shares a Hawthorns transfer twist.

Who will leave West Brom this summer?

Carlos Corberan's side have seen a plethora of last season's squad leave this summer, with Dara O'Shea, Jake Livermore, Archie Oliver, Rico Richards, Zach Ashworth, Karlan Grant and Kean Bryan all departing in some capacity.

Some of the aforementioned left the club on permanent deals, including O'Shea to Burnley for around £7 million, while the likes of Livermore departed West Brom as a free agent following the expiry of his contract.

After an inconsistent end to the 2022/2023 Championship season, the Baggies narrowly missed out on a play-off promotion spot, falling just short of Sunderland in sixth – and Corberan will be hoping his new-look side can mount a better challenge next campaign.

West Brom have just one confirmed signing under their belt as we now reach August and the final stretch of this transfer window – namely midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Premier League side Brighton.

However, before Corberan's side announce further new arrivals, it appears more exits could be on the cards this summer and one player who has attracted serious top flight interest is shot-stopper Palmer.

carlos-corberan-leeds-united-manager-live-updates-gossip-west-brom-marsch

Luton Town, after their fairytale promotion to the big time via a play-off win at Wembley, have been in talks to sign the 26-year-old who started 23 league games as West Brom's number one last season.

It was believed he was nearing a move to the Hatters, with newspaper journalist Nixon claiming both Luton and West Brom had agreed on a transfer fee for the keeper.

Sharing an update on his prospective departure, Nixon says there's been a twist, as he writes on his Patreon (via West Brom News).

According to the reporter, Palmer's move has now stalled due to personal terms. Indeed, Luton's need to insert relegation clauses into contracts has resulted in the transfer facing total collapse.

Palmer would have picked up a pay rise with his move to Kenilworth Road, but his wages would've also been cut dramatically if Luton face relegation at the end of next campaign.

As a result, the Englishman is no closer to leaving West Brom and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

How good is Alex Palmer?

The goalkeeper worked his way into the West Brom number one spot last season, earning praise and ultimately doing a solid job succeeding Sam Johnstone between the sticks.

According to WhoScored, Palmer ranked as one of their top 10 best-performing players by average match rating, with Corberan holding him in very high esteem.

After a 2-1 win over Sunderland last term, the Baggies boss singled him out for praise for some key saves, sayinh he deserves just as much credit as the goalscorers.

Corberan said:

"Alex Palmer I didn't play against before, but they are a group of players I knew before I came here. Palmer has grown very well, he's growing a lot and he's helping the team a lot.

"We've talked about the goal of Rogic and the goal of Dike, but the save that Palmer did in the first moments of the game, the more competitive moments of the game, changed everything.

"Maybe you don't change it at 2-0, maybe yes but maybe no. Maybe thanks to this save, we now have three points."

Man United Eye Rashford 2.0 In "Dream" £155k-p/w Gem

Manchester United’s summer business hasn’t exactly gone to plan, making just one signing so far, that of Mason Mount, who arrived from Chelsea.

Erik ten Hag knows there are a few areas which will need to be improved, particularly in the goalkeeping department and across the frontline. Andre Onana looks close to joining the Old Trafford side in a move which would certainly give United a solid option between the posts, yet their attacking options are looking sparse.

With this in mind, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward João Félix according to Spanish newspaper ABC (via Sport Witness) as they look to rival fellow Premier League sides Aston Villa and Newcastle United for his signature this summer.

The La Liga side have placed a staggering €140m (£120m) price tag on the player if any club is aiming to sign him during the transfer window, and this could prove to be a potential stumbling block for Ten Hag.

The Portuguese star spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea, registering just four goals across 20 appearances for the Blues, which suggests that Atletico may need to lower their demands if they wish to move him on before the window slams shut.

Could João Félix join Manchester United?

It is certainly a possibility, especially with the nature of the transfer window, and with United clearly needing some strength added to their faltering attack – scoring just 58 league goals last season – they could test the resolve of the Spanish side with a bid.

If they did secure the signature of the £195k-per-week star – who can play either as a centre-forward or out on the wing – they won't just be getting a player who has shone in the Champions League previously, but also a forward who is similar to Marcus Rashford.

The Englishman enjoyed a stunning campaign during 2022/23, scoring 30 times and grabbing 11 assists too as he proved to Ten Hag that he could be counted on as United’s main source of goals, and it certainly isn’t a bad comparison for Felix to have, with FBref establishing the current Atletico gem as the third-most comparable player to Rashford.

Indeed, last season domestically, the duo shared similar statistics across attacking metrics such as shots per 90 (4.07 to 3.38), shot-creating actions per 90 (3.39 to 3.06), goal-creating actions per 90 (0.34 to 0.44) and crosses delivered (27 to 24), suggesting that the duo both pose a significant attacking danger in the final third.

Former teammate Alvaro Morata praised Felix for being “special” while U23 scout Antonio Mango has hailed the 23-year-old as a “dream” earlier this year and when he is on form, there is no doubt he is one of the finest attacking players on the continent.

Could Ten Hag get Felix back to his best however? Alongside Rashford he could be excellent, especially as the youngster is similar to the United talisman in many ways.

£120m may be too much, but if the Red Devils can negotiate a cheaper fee, it would be a smart move.

Man United Could Swap Martial Plus Cash To Sign 30-Goal Striker

Manchester United have not given up on signing Harry Kane this summer it seems, with Football Transfers reporting that a fresh player plus cash bid could be lined up for the striker.

How many career goals does Harry Kane have?

There's no doubting that the Tottenham man is currently one of the most prolific forwards in the game, with the 29-year-old hitting one of his career best totals for goals in the Premier League last season. In 38 outings for his side in the top flight, he produced 30 goals and three assists – leading to a rate of 0.87 goal contributions per 90 on average.

It means that the Spurs attacker now has a total of 227 career league goals in just 373 games, with the majorityof those coming in the top flight. With the player still to enter his thirties too, it looks like he will continue to hit the back of the net for a good few years yet.

In fact, his league total of goals in the 2022/23 season actually saw him sit second in both the division's goal ranking and the Big Five European Leagues goal rankings too – only Erling Haaland had more for either category. Kane beat out the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen and Robert Lewandowski – which shows he is clearly still one of the best in his position in world football.

Are Man United signing Harry Kane?

It's no surprise then to hear that Man United remain eager to try and add him to their squad this summer. The Red Devils had been linked with a transfer for the star for most of the window, only for it to seem like a potential deal might be dead in the water.

Now, according to a report from Football Transfers, in what is a big twist from the interest in making Rasmus Hojlund their marquee number nine, the Premier League side also want to try and sort out an agreement for Kane this summer – and could use a player at their disposal to try and tempt Tottenham into doing business.

That's because Spurs are believed to be keen on snapping up Anthony Martial themselves – and now United can use that to their advantage. With United chiefs still holding out hope of a potential deal for Kane despite interest from Bayern Munich, they could be prepared to offer both the Frenchman and a fee for Kane in order to convince their rivals into allowing the England international to move to Old Trafford.

It also appears as though Kane himself wouldn't mind a move to the Red Devils – so that will be a welcome boost in their continued pursuit of the forward this summer.

It would certainly help solve their attacking issues if they did sign him. His goalscoring exploits have led to him being recognised as one of the best in the game right now. Even Pep Guardiola, Man City's treble-winning manager, has been quick to highlight how good Kane is in attack. The Catalan called the forward "exceptional" and had even bigger praise for the Spurs man, adding that he is "one of the best strikers" he has ever watched.

If Man United did manage to finally bring him to the club then, it would be a blow to their rivals but would also make the Red Devils a real force to be reckoned with next season.

Pujara gets in the zone for 'important' Dharamsala Test

On Thursday at the HPCA Stadium nets, Cheteshwar Pujara was batting like a man who had just made a double-hundred. He was stepping out frequently to R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav, and driving down the ground with immense power – one straight drive broke the single stump at the bowlers’ end.On a couple of occasions, he even went as far as lofting the spinners. Pujara being Pujara, he had probably brought the shot out of cryogenic storage simply because this was Dharamsala, which has some of the smallest boundaries among all Indian grounds, and is situated at an altitude – 1317m above sea level – that may cause the ball to carry further. The last time he batted in a Test match, Pujara did not loft the ball once. He did nothing that could even remotely imperil his stay at the crease, and ended up spending more than 11 hours there.Shortly before padding up for his net session, Pujara had addressed a press conference where he was asked about how he had acquired the gifts of patience and temperament that so define his batting.”I think when it comes to patience, it is all hard work,” he said. “I started playing cricket at the age of eight and then I played [my] first game for the state [junior] team at the age of 13. Since then, I have been playing this format and I think the experience [of] playing in the domestic circuit and working hard day in, day out, is paying off now.”At times during his innings in Ranchi, it seemed as if Pujara had entered a meditative state.”I can say that, at times, I am in that zone where things are happening for me because of that experience, because I know how to do things, how to continue batting and how to continue concentrating for a longer period of time. I know what to do, how to focus, how to switch off and switch back [on] again. I have been doing it in domestic cricket for a long period of time, which is helping me now.”Does he have any cues, before the ball is bowled, to help him switch on again?”Not really,” Pujara said. “I believe in practising well, preparing well before the series, so I am always confident when my preparation is good. I don’t really think when I am batting in the middle, I try and keep my mind really blank.”Having played an innings as epic in scale as he did in Ranchi, how difficult does Pujara find it to recover, physically and mentally?”I focus on my diet,” he said. “I try and sleep on time and have a good sleep. Do some recovery sessions, have a massage. Those sort of things, I have some routines once the match finishes, I try and focus on that, I give a lot of importance to recovery.”I don’t know mentally – I think you just have to be up for it. Mentally, you can’t do anything extra to just come out of it, but when you’re tired you just have to motivate yourself and the ultimate goal is to win matches for the team and win this particular series.”With the teams locked 1-1 ahead of the decider, India have arrived at a new Test venue whose location is unlike any other international ground in India, and whose pitch – at least in domestic cricket – always offers something to the quicker bowlers. Asked about this, Pujara said India weren’t too fussed about the conditions they may be playing in.”It looks like a good wicket,” he said. “I think we have played a lot of cricket even in Dharamsala. We have played enough first-class cricket, we know the conditions. We will just try and focus on things which we want to focus on rather than worrying about how the wicket will play.”We have played enough cricket on different pitches throughout the season. So I don’t think the wicket will matter a lot to us. We are very confident, the way we have played throughout the series. Apart from the first Test match, we have played very good cricket. So we would look to continue that and win the series.”In the days leading up to the match, the BCCI announced its new list of centrally contracted players. Pujara was promoted to the top grade for the first time in his career.”It’s good to be recognised, but at the same time, we’re in the middle of a series and I don’t want to think about the contract,” Pujara said. “We have an important game coming up and I would still like to focus on the game and prepare well. We have practice the next couple of days so we’d like to focus on that.”

Rangers: Beale could unearth new Diallo in £11m "prospect"

Glasgow Rangers are enjoying a productive transfer window that’s for sure, with Michael Beale signing five players already before pre-season and the onus will be for him to keep up with this momentum over the coming weeks.

With Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell, Sam Lammers and now Abdallah Sima all arriving at Ibrox, there is a wide mix of talent which has freshened up the squad, something that was badly required.

Sima in particular could be an exciting signing, albeit only temporary, with Dean Jones lavishing praise on him upon his arrival.

Speaking to Football FanCast, Jones said: “Obviously he hasn’t really got going at Brighton but a very exciting talent that I think could thrive.

“Yeah, in that league and for Rangers.”

With a value of €12.4m (£11m) according to Football Transfers, there is no doubting the talent he has, the key thing now will be to put it to good use in a Gers shirt.

Could Abdallah Sima shine for Rangers?

During his time at Slavia Prague, Sima registered 23 goal contributions – 16 goals and seven assists – across just 39 matches which led to a big money move to Brighton in 2021.

His form has dipped somewhat since leaving the Czech Republic however, as he has scored just six senior goals across the previous two seasons, yet a fresh start at Rangers could allow him to unleash his talent.

Indeed, Beale might just unearth another Amad Diallo, who arrived as a talented youngster on loan back in January 2022 when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was in charge.

The Manchester United starlet scored just a few minutes into his debut against Ross County, yet a stop start few months didn’t exactly do him any favours as he struggled to impose himself in the first team, despite his obvious talent. He only managed 13 appearances in his short spell, although he enjoyed a more successful stint at Sunderland last term.

The Ivorian scored 14 times in total for the Black Cats and looked rejuvenated and perhaps Sima could replicate this North of the border.

The “fantastic prospect” – as so dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig – could be used in a variety of ways under Beale due to his versatility, as the 22-year-old can operate on either wing or through the middle.

Like any signing, it represents a gamble, yet with no fee involved and with a player who is clearly hungry to succeed, it could work out well for both parties, and he could perhaps turn into the loan star which all the Ibrox faithful thought Diallo was going to be.
