WHAT HAPPENED?
Grealish shared a series of snaps depicting his summer adventures to his 8.6 million Instagram followers, where he reflected on a "needed" break which has left him recharged and prepared to go again in the new football season. One snap featured Grealish posing with girlfriend Sasha Attwood and baby daughter Mila, while another standout in the 'photo dump' saw the City star alongside five of Oasis legends Liam and Noel Gallagher's children – Lennon, Gene, Anais, Sonny and Donovan – at one of the band's reunion gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Grealish was able to take this time to recharge as he was left out of Pep Guardiola's Club World Cup squad after falling increasingly out of favour last campaign. The consensus between all parties is believed to be that now is the right time for Grealish to move on from Man City, with the club set to make a huge loss on the £100m they shelled out for him in 2021. A move has yet to materialise, though this may have partially been due to Grealish's extended time away. He has also spent time training alone this summer.

WHAT NEXT FOR GREALISH?
The 29-year-old will hope to have a new home next season if he is to have the best chance of forcing his way into Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad. Boyhood club Aston Villa have been touted to make a move for their former captain, while a sensational switch to link up with Kevin De Bruyne at Serie A champions Napoli has also been rumoured.
Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson put on a 180-run second-wicket stand to take New Zealand to 401 for 6. A winning total on most days, but in Bengaluru on Saturday, it didn’t prove enough as Pakistan had their own mammoth unbroken second-wicket stand of 194, between Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam, which gave them a 21-run DLS win.”They played exceptionally well,” Williamson said on the host broadcast after the game, “and they gave themselves every chance, and at the end of the day, they got across the line. I suppose having the match shortened brings both teams a bit closer together when you’re chasing 400, but they played exceptionally well. They were certainly on target with their chase.”It would have been nice for the full 50 [overs], but having said that, there are absolutely things we want to touch on. It was really tricky to shut down that short side [boundary], Zaman exploited that beautifully in that partnership with Babar as well. So full credit, they deserve their result today and for us, it’s moving on quickly and facing our next challenge.”Related

That challenge, for both sides, is to win their final league-stage game. They are both on four wins from eight games, and will hope to get to ten points and have a shot at making the semi-finals.Babar was aware of the short boundary, the pitch favouring batters, and the weather around. As a result, he wasn’t perturbed by the early loss of Abdullah Shafique as he walked out at 6 for 1 after two overs. His message for Fakhar was to play himself in for 15 overs and set the stage alight after that, which he did.”I just asked Fakhar, ‘if you play 15 overs, we are ahead’,” Babar said. “Back of the mind, we knew that the rain was coming, but unfortunately, the rain was too much, [we were] not expecting that much of rain. We just planned to build a partnership, I just tried to [hand over the] strike to Fakhar because he [seemed like he] was playing on a different pitch. We know we have a short boundary and we utilised it.”Fakhar peppered the short boundary in his 126 not out, which included eight fours and 11 sixes. The big hits, along with the challenges offered by bowling to a left-right duo, left too much for Williamson, and New Zealand, to do.”If you get a wicket or two, you’re able to take the short side out of it, in terms of left-and-right combination, and things can change quickly,” Williamson said. “But we weren’t able to do that today and Pakistan exploited that to the max and deserved the win.”

Nick Gubbins gave Hampshire a sniff of saving their LV= Insurance County Championship fixture with Essex with an unbeaten 44.Hampshire looked on the brink of a fourth defeat of the season, which would have all but ended their title hopes, having given up a 49-run first-innings lead and lost four second-innings wickets before wiping out the deficit.Jamie Porter was the main architect of the destruction with another three wickets to go with his first-innings 5 for 37, but Gubbins showed a high level of control of a tricky pitch to reach the highest individual score of the match so far. When the day-ending rain came at tea, he was six runs shy of a fifth half-century of the season and helped his side to a 73-run lead.Essex lost their four remaining wickets for just 24 runs as the pitch lost its green tinge and became a much slower surface, albeit still favouring the bowlers with turn and invariable bounce coming to the fore.Adam Rossington was challenged outside his off stump by John Turner to edge behind, the newly England-qualified fast bowler claiming Championship-best figures of 3 for 23. Sam Cook was leg-before to Kyle Abbott before Liam Dawson had Porter caught behind.Shane Snater had been helped off the field just over 24 hours previously, having damaged his calf while bowling, but bravely reappeared with Michael Pepper as his runner. He lasted just three balls before he was lbw to Dawson.Essex’s 169 had put them on top in the match before their new-ball bowling rammed home their dominance. Ian Holland was the latest member to get back on the Hampshire opening batter merry-go-round against Nottinghamshire last time out, and took his chance with a sensational 138 not out.Related

Porter gives Essex the edge in title-challenge dogfight
But the frustrating inconsistency at the top of the order, which has seen Felix Organ and Joe Weatherley discarded this season, struck as his first-innings three was joined by a second innings four as Porter had him lbw. Fletcha Middleton, who has opened throughout the season, only made eight before Cook stung his pads.Gubbins had top scored for Hampshire in the first innings with 25 and demonstrated great patience, and trust in his exemplary technique, by taking 13 balls to get off the mark. He put on 34 with James Vince – who suffered a blow to the box when the ball misbehaved – before the captain hoicked to long leg off Paul Walter’s first ball, the tall left-armer picking him up in both innings.Ben Brown was unconvincing in his edge to gully, Dawson filthy with himself after going back to Harmer and dragging on before Organ was Porter’s eighth victim of the match with another leg-before.Gubbins, who had an early life when an edge went through second slip, responded to that wicket by crouching onto his haunches and squatting a praying pose with the lead at a nominal 41.His prayer was answered in the form of James Fuller, who joined him in an unbroken 32-run stand which nudged Hampshire towards setting Essex a target of note. However, the visitors remain heavy favourites.
Manchester United’s woes this season have been epitomised over the international break, with there notably having not been a single Red Devils representative named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
With the likes of Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo all making their respective returns from injury, United’s only connection to the Three Lions this time around was that of Marcus Rashford, albeit with the 27-year-old currently on loan at Aston Villa.
The Old Trafford outcast started in both games against Albania and Latvia, although endured two mixed performances on the flanks, with Tuchel admitting that he had “spoken” to both Rashford and Phil Foden following Friday’s win.
The United academy graduate has, it must be said, enjoyed a lively start to life at Villa Park after racking up four assists from just nine outings for his new side, yet the wait goes on to break his duck in the Midlands.
Even amid the shortage of attacking depth in Ruben Amorim’s ranks, few will be truly lamenting the decision to loan out Rashford back in January, with it already looking like the end of his lengthy association with the Manchester side.
Why Marcus Rashford should be sold this summer
It is now just over nine years ago that a teenage Rashford burst onto the scene following that brace against FC Midtjylland in February 2016, with the 18-year-old capitalising on a centre-forward injury crisis to force his way into Louis van Gaal’s senior set-up.
A further 136 goals and 425 games have followed in the time since, although it would appear that the forward’s time at Old Trafford has come to its conclusion, not least with Villa holding a £40m option to buy this summer.
Not long ago, Rashford had looked almost “unstoppable” after returning from the 2022 World Cup, as per then-boss Erik ten Hag, with the Englishman ultimately finishing that 2022/23 campaign with 30 goals to his name at club level.
£300k-per-week deal in the summer of 2023, albeit with the long-serving star failing to kick on since then, having scored just eight times last season.
A muted start to the current campaign, which yielded just seven goals, was followed by an imposed exile amid Amorim’s appointment, with Rashford having not been seen in a United shirt since being left out for the Manchester Derby back in December.
Previously described as a “major major problem” for the club by journalist Liam Canning, Rashford did himself outline his desire for a “new challenge” late last year, with talk of a dream move to Barcelona on the cards, prior to his switch to Villa.
That now looks to have marked the beginning of the end for his United journey – hopefully the same isn’t true of Kobbie Mainoo.
Man Utd have struck gold on Rashford 2.0
Despite the way it appears to be ending, Rashford’s spell at United has largely represented a real bright spot in an at times bleak post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, with the forward’s rise from academy prospect to first-team talisman having been simply meteoric.

Now, amid the ongoing PSR restrictions, cashing in on the Manchester-born striker would represent astute business for the club, particularly if that £40m price tag is met.
While there may also be a temptation to nudge other academy talents towards the exit door, it would be a crying shame for young Mainoo to follow suit, despite talk surrounding a £70m move to Chelsea back in January.

There have been whispers in recent months that the teenager may even look to move abroad after a stall in contract talks, albeit with a more recent update indicating that the latest negotiations over a new deal have been ‘positive’.
The 19-year-old has endured an injury-hit season, although it was not too long ago that he looked the type of player that United should be building around – a point that pundit Jack Wilshere also thought was true at international level:
Who can forget the midfielder’s decisive strike in the FA Cup final, nor his delightful, curling effort in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Those moments of magic had come following a sublime solo goal away at Molineux in the 4-3 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers back in February 2024.
Described as a “generational talent” by teammate Rasmus Hojlund, Mainoo – who started every knockout stage game at Euro 2024 – hasn’t enjoyed a smooth ride under the new Amorim regime, although he did showcase his credentials in a number ten berth after scoring and assisting away at FCSB.
In truth, the United boss must find a home for the midfield maestro in his 3-4-3 set-up, with it likely to represent a real waste of talent and potential if Mainoo simply tumbles down the pecking order.
Manchester United – Kobbie Mainoo
Indeed, the youngster’s status is indicated best by the fact that he is now worth around £46m, according to Transfermarkt, placing him ahead of that man Rashford in that regard, with the latter man deemed to be worth £42m.
Having followed in his teammate’s footsteps after rising from the youth ranks, Mainoo can now kick on and show just why he is United and England’s future. Rashford, meanwhile, could well be resigned to the past on both fronts.

Nadine de Klerk backs up last weekend’s bowling exploits for The Blaze with top score of 43

England captain Heather Knight saw her return to domestic action curtailed by the weather as Western Storm’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match against The Blaze at Leicester was abandoned just beyond the halfway stage, both sides taking two points each.Knight, preparing to lead England in this summer’s home Ashes series against Australia, was just five overs into her first bat on home soil since July last year when showers gave way to heavy rain.Knight missed a large part of last season because of a hip injury for which she later had surgery and played in this year’s inaugural Women’s Premier League in India following a return to international action in the winter. She did not bowl as The Blaze posted 209 for 9 from their 50 overs but opened the batting for Storm alongside Alex Griffiths and was 5 not out with her side 23 without loss when bad weather arrived. The multi-format Ashes series begins with a Test match at Trent Bridge on June 22, preceded by a red-ball match between England and Australia A in Derby a week earlier.Today’s abandonment meant both The Blaze and Storm have suffered two no-results in their first five matches in the women’s regional 50-over competition, although The Blaze have won all three completed matches to lead the early season table.Storm would have fancied ending that run after restricting the home side to what was probably a sub-par score, even though conditions favoured the bowlers with the ball swinging under the cloud cover.South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk, their star with the ball in a career-best 7 for 33 against Northern Diamonds last weekend, top-scored with 43 for The Blaze, Georgie Boyce making 34. Danielle Gibson, Chloe Skelton and Griffths took two wickets each for Western Storm. The Blaze made a terrible start after being put in, losing leading-scorer Tammy Beaumont in the third over and opening partner Marie Kelly in the fourth, each contributing only a single.Beaumont would not have enjoyed watching her dismissal, bowled shouldering arms to an inswinging Gibson delivery that jagged back off the pitch. Kelly, pushing forward, edged Lauren Filer behind. The third-wicket pairing of Boyce and Kathryn Bryce repaired the damage by adding 51 for the second wicket, helped by a generous number of wides, but after a half-hour stoppage for rain lost Bryce to a catch at slip off the medium pace of Mollie Robbins.Sarah Bryce helped Boyce keep the scoreboard moving but from 93 for 3 in the 22nd over, The Blaze lost three wickets in as many overs to slip to 99 for 6.Boyce was unlucky, jamming the bat down on a yorker-length delivery from Griffiths only for the ball to somehow squirm back onto the stumps. Then Sarah Glenn feathered a catch behind off Skelton’s off-spin, and Bryce dragged one on to hand Griffiths a second success. The Blaze looked in danger of going down cheaply at 110 for 7 when Lucy Higham chopped straight to backward point but a combination of de Klerk’s quality and a strong showing from the tail almost doubled the total in the remaining 23 overs.Sophie Munro punched a valuable 24 off 40 balls including a pulled six off Filer and after de Klerk had been bowled attempting to slog-sweep Gibson, skipper Kirstie Gordon and Grace Ballinger added 21 off the last 21 balls to take the total beyond 200.

Dean Elgar, Heinrich Klaasen and Kyle Verreynne warmed up for South Africa’s Test tour of Australia with big hundreds in the domestic four-day competition.Elgar, South Africa’s Test captain, scored his first century in exactly a year, with 137 for the Titans against the Knights. His previous hundred came in November 2021, when he scored 117 against Western Province. Elgar’s next best score since then is an unbeaten 96 against India at the Wanderers.Related

In the same match, Klaasen, who was recalled to the Test squad in place of Ryan Rickelton (who had an ankle injury which made him ineligible for national selection but is playing in this round of domestic matches), hit a career-best 292 off 240 balls.Klaasen has only played one Test for South Africa, on their 2019 tour to India, where he scored 11 runs, but has been part of their white-ball teams since.Klaasen is travelling as the back-up wicketkeeper but the incumbent, Kyle Verreynne, made sure he made a statement too. He scored a double-hundred of his own for Western Province against Paarl Rocks at Newlands and finished on 201*.There was less luck for Test opener Sarel Erwee and middle-order batter Khaya Zondo, who made 11 and 15 respectively for the Dolphins against the Warriors.Keegan Petersen, who would have played in that match too, has been ruled out of action until next year with a torn hamstring. But his most likely Test replacement, Rassie van der Dussen, returned to action after being sidelined for the last two-and-half-months with a broken left index finger. Van der Dussen scored 45 for the Lions against the Dragons.Heinrich Klaasen made a first-class career-best 292•Cricket South Africa
Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s Test vice-captain, is also part of the Lions outfit but, along with Kagiso Rabada, is not required to play a four-day match before traveling to Australia. Bavuma, who endured a torrid white-ball run and is contemplating his future as T20I captain, has been given a break while Rabada, despite his poor T20 World Cup, is having his workload managed.Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj, who is recovering from a groin injury, will play in next week’s round of matches while Gerald Coetzee, Glenton Stuurman and Simon Harmer have played both fixtures so far.Coetzee bowled to Elgar in the opening stages of his innings at SuperSport Park and finished wicketless from 22 overs, in which he conceded 147 runs. He took 1 for 16 in last week’s drawn match against the Dragons.Stuurman is also without reward in this round of matches so far, with 0 for 42 from 10 overs but took nine wickets in the Warriors’ victory over Boland last week. Harmer took 1 for 63 in a rain-affected fixture against Western Province last week.

It is an all-cash trade, the details of which have not been disclosed by the IPL or the franchises.Ferguson’s signing marks his return to the set-up he was part of between 2019 and 2021. Ferguson, who was signed for INR 10 crore (five times his base price) at the February auction this year, played a key role for Titans in their inaugural season. He picked up 12 wickets in 13 games at an economy of 8.95 and a best of 4 for 27. He also bowled the fastest ball of the season, clocked at 157.3kph, to Jos Buttler in the final. He picked up seven wickets in five games during New Zealand’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, where they lost in the semi-finals to Pakistan. The addition of Afghanistan’s Gurbaz gives KKR more wicketkeeping options. It’s an area they struggled with in the IPL 2022, with neither of Sam Billings, Sheldon Jackson and B Indrajith managing to nail their positions in the XI.Gurbaz, who had listed himself at a base price of INR 50 lakh, went unsold initially before being signed by Titans as a replacement for England’s Jason Roy. Gurbaz spent the entire 2022 season on the bench with the Titans preferring the experience of Matthew Wade and Wriddhiman Saha at different times.Gurbaz has already featured in overseas leagues such as the PSL, CPL, BPL, LPL and Abu Dhabi T10 League. In 99 T20s overall, he has struck at 152.48, while accruing 2481 runs with 16 half-centuries and a century.”Both players leave behind unforgettable memories,” Vikram Solanki, Titans’ team director, said. “Lockie’s four-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals is a performance we will always remember. While Gurbaz did not play a game, his promise and talent was evident right through.”On Friday, Royal Challengers Bangalore traded Australia fast bowler Jason Behrendorff to Mumbai Indians. They had signed Behrendorff for his base price of INR 75 lakh but didn’t field him in any of the games this season. In addition to the purse remaining from the previous auction and the value of the players they release, teams have been given an additional INR 5 crore to spend at this auction, making the overall purse INR 95 crore (approx.
