Luan Peres no Santos? Ex-integrante do Comitê Gestor relata sobre a possibilidade de retorno

MatériaMais Notícias

O Santos possui problemas recorrentes no sistema defensivo.

SRH ride on another Abhishek blitz to finish second in league-stage standings

Punjab Kings posted 214 on the back of a solid fifty from Prabhsimran, but SRH hunted it down with five balls to spare

Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide put on 97 for the first wicket off 55 balls, Rilee Rossouw hit 49 at a strike rate above 200, and Jitesh Sharma provided the closing fireworks, with 32 not out off 15. They set Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) 215 to win.And still it wasn’t enough for Punjab Kings (PBKS). Not nearly enough to halt the batting juggernaut that SRH have been in IPL 2024. They lost their best batter Travis Head first ball, but raced through the powerplay thanks to Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi, who hit 66 off 28 and 33 off 18 respectively, propelling the team to 84 for 2 at the end of their first six overs. From then, the scoring didn’t really slow until the target was within sight. Heinrich Klaasen led SRH to the brink of victory with 42 off 26. The winning runs were hit with five balls to spare.Dare we say something about the bowlers? Only SRH’s T Natarajan escaped with decent figures, taking 2 for 33.SRH now move into second on the points table. That they would finish their and play the Qualifier 1 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was confirmed after Rajasthan Royals’ last league match against KKR in Guwahati was washed out.1:55

Should Rahul Tripathi play the playoffs for SRH?

Abhishek lights up Hyderabad one last time in IPL 2024In what was their last home game this season, Abhishek gave the SRH faithful a show to remember a batting-powered season by. He smashed his first two sixes over fine leg, when bowlers delivered short-of-a-length balls into the body, and went on to hit six sixes in all, in addition to five fours. Most of these relied on excellent timing, but there was luck there too – one of the sixes came off the outside edge.He sped past 50 off 21 balls, but this was only his third-fastest half-century this season – he had hit fifties off 16 and 19 balls in the weeks gone by.Abhishek’s 72-run partnership with Tripathi, which came off 29 balls, was the foundation of SRH’s chase. Even after they were parted, the required rate seemed tame.Klaasen plays a measured inningsAs good as Abhishek’s fireworks were, SRH still needed 86 off the last 59 balls after he was out, and Klaasen delivered one of his more chilled-out innings. He still hit sixes when it felt good, of course, the most spectacular being the back-foot six down the ground off the bowling of Harpreet Brar, who had just delivered a standard length ball outside off stump. But as wickets fell around him, it needed someone to take responsibility and massage the chase home. Klaasen was bowled by Brar with SRH needing seven to win off 11 balls. But he had got them close enough.3:03

‘Punjab should hold on to their Indian players’

Prabhsimran and Taide’s opening mayhemPBKS had reason to hope they would get a closing win for this season, though, and finish outside the bottom two, mainly because of the start they had in the game. Prabhsimran was outstanding on the leg side, hitting all his four sixes there in his 71 off 45. Taide made 46 off 27.A match-defining four oversThere was something of a slowdown after Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, the young legspinner from Jaffna, took Prabhsimran’s wicket in the 15th over. Although Jitesh finished strong, perhaps overs 15 to 18 (both inclusive) was when PBKS lost their way. They had been 151 for 1 at the start of that passage, looking poised to push 250. By the end of the 18th over, they were 186 for 5.

Glamorgan sign Mason Crane on loan, Mir Hamza for Championship

Mir Hamza, the Pakistan left-arm seamer, has signed to play for Glamorgan in the first half of the upcoming County Championship season. He will be joined in Cardiff by Mason Crane after Hampshire allowed the legspinner to join Glamorgan on a season-long loan.Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, hailed the arrival of Crane, describing the 27-year-old as “a high-quality player who gives us an attacking skill set in all formats”. Crane has played a Test and two T20Is for England, most recently in 2018, but struggled with injury. He was a Blast winner with Hampshire in 2022 but only played 14 times for the club last season.”I’m very thankful for the opportunity at Glamorgan and incredibly excited to get to work and push towards a successful season with the team,” Crane said.Hampshire’s director of cricket, Giles White, said the move would help Crane’s development but that he could be recalled if needed. “Mason hasn’t had the game time here at Hampshire over the last couple of years and time with Glamorgan offers him the opportunity to play first XI cricket across the formats,” he said.”Having had many conversations with him, we both feel that this is the best for his career and the development of his game. The deal is structured in a way that allows his return if we need him later in the season.”Hamza, 31, has been capped five times in Tests, most recently on Pakistan’s 2023-24 tour of Australia. He has taken 434 first-class wickets at an average of 22.40, and previously represented Sussex and Warwickshire in county cricket.”It’s excellent news that Mir has agreed to join us at the start of the season,” Wallace said. “He’s an international bowler with a fine record and previous experience in county cricket. We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Cardiff.”Mir Hamza has played five Tests for Pakistan•Getty Images

Hamza’s signing comes in the wake of Grant Bradburn’s appointment as head coach. Bradburn previously held a number of roles at the PCB, including assistant and head coach, before joining up with Glamorgan last month.Bradburn said: “As coach, I am excited for our group to add such an experienced performer in Mir Hamza. Having worked with Mir previously in Pakistan, I have full confidence that Mir will add huge value to our team both on and off the field.”Hamza, who had a short stint at Warwickshire last year and played for Sussex in 2019, will be available for Glamorgan’s first seven Championship games up until the end of May.Hamza said: “I am thrilled to be joining Glamorgan for the County Championship this summer. It will be exciting to work with Grant again after working with him with Pakistan, and I can’t wait to join up with the squad, get to training and help this great club push for a positive start to the season. I have heard many great things about Cardiff from my team-mates who played there last summer and look forward to meeting all of the supporters.”The club also announced a dual-captaincy appointment for the summer, with Sam Northeast taking the reins in the Championship and Kiran Carlson leading in white ball. Northeast, now in his third season at Glamorgan, succeeds David Lloyd after the allrounder left to join Derbyshire.Glamorgan finished fifth in Division Two in the 2023 Championship, drawing 12 of their 14 games.

Middlesex hunting new overseas player as Malan returns home

London neighbours Surrey have secured the return of Kemar Roach for the Championship run-in

Middlesex have announced that they are on the hunt for an overseas player in their bid to avoid relegation from Division One of the County Championship, with Pieter Malan leaving the club early after a poor season with the bat.Malan, who won three Test caps for South Africa in early 2020, re-signed for the summer after helping Middlesex secure promotion at the end of last summer but has struggled for form. He managed 221 runs at 14.73 across his eight Championship fixtures, with more ducks (five) than half-centuries (two). He also played eight games for them in the Blast, scoring 206 runs at a strike rate of 137.33, and did not feature in their One Day Cup campaign, with opportunities instead afforded to younger players. He has now returned to South Africa to captain Boland in domestic cricket.Alan Coleman, Middlesex’s director of cricket, said that Malan “would be the first to admit that this season has been a struggle for him on the field”. He added: “It most certainly isn’t through lack of effort and hard work on his part… however, sometimes things just don’t work out.”Middlesex, who sit third-bottom in Division One and are locked into a relegation battle with Kent and Northamptonshire, confirmed in a statement: “[We are] now looking for a replacement to feature in the run-in to the end of the season, with four crucial County Championship matches remaining.”Kemar Roach is returning to Surrey•Getty Images

Meanwhile, south of the River Thames, Surrey have secured the return of Kemar Roach as they look to secure a second successive Championship title. Roach took 18 wickets in five appearances for them earlier this year before returning home, but is coming back to South London for the run-in.Surrey are 17 points clear of second-placed Essex heading into the final month of fixtures, and will be without three fast bowlers on England duty in Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran and Reece Topley – though Curran and Topley have featured in one Championship match between them this season.Roach said: “Surrey is a second home for me and I’m looking forward to getting back down to business ahead of three massive games. We know what the goal is for the team and I’m going to give everything to help achieve it.”

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Barcelona find themselves in hot water with UEFA over a breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, and this time, escaping without a significant financial penalty appears unlikely. According to (h/t AS), the European football governing body initially proposed a €60 million fine. However, that figure could be reduced to €15 million, provided the club adheres strictly to FFP regulations going forward.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

President Joan Laporta met with UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin during the Nations League final in Munich to negotiate a resolution. The dispute centers on UEFA's classification of Barcelona’s financial levers, such as selling future TV rights. While La Liga considers these transactions as operating income, UEFA views them as profits from intangible assets, which are not valid under Financial Fair Play rules. Barcelona defended their actions by arguing to UEFA that La Liga had previously permitted asset sales as a temporary financing solution, citing the club’s inability to raise capital and their reluctance to burden members financially.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

This isn’t the first time Barcelona have faced disciplinary action over similar financial maneuvers. The club was previously fined €500,000 for the sale of 25% of its TV rights, although that penalty was later reduced following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

    WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

If the Catalans fail to comply with UEFA's regulations and do not pay the penalty on time, they could face difficulties in registering new arrivals such as Joan Garcia. The final verdict by UEFA is yet to be announced. The Blaugrana will be awaiting the decision with bated breath, in hopes that they do not face further difficulties with registrations or other sporting sanctions.

Joe Clarke hundred lifts Notts after Warwickshire enforce follow-on

Deficit still 149 but hosts given hope by Clarke’s first ton since 2021

ECB Reporters Network13-Jun-2023Joe Clarke posted his first century in first-class cricket since September 2021 but Warwickshire remain favourites to complete the fourth win of their LV= Insurance County Championship season and stay in contention for the Division One title.Nottinghamshire were following on after being bowled out for just 155 in reply to Warwickshire’s 571 for 9 declared but despite Clarke’s impressive performance they remained 149 runs behind at the close of the third day at 267 for 4 and a second new ball available to the visiting bowlers after just two more overs.Clarke finished unbeaten on 119 from 178 balls, having batted for almost four hours and not given a chance, picking up 22 boundaries. Skipper Steven Mullaney was not out on 37 in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand worth 81 yet even with the pitch flattening out, Warwickshire will be disappointed not to turn their dominance over the first three days into a victory.Earlier, Pakistan quick Hasan Ali had taken three for 30 and Will Rhodes and Chris Rushworth two wickets each as Nottinghamshire were dismissed in 56 overs to trail by 416 on first innings.Having left the field to rumbles of thunder and lightning flashes on Monday evening, Nottinghamshire emerged in glorious sunshine for day three having been urged to fight for their survival, despite being five down for 82, still 489 runs behind. Yet 24 overs and two balls later, they were being asked to follow on.Mullaney, not out with Tom Moores overnight, was well caught at short midwicket at the end of the fifth full over of the day, a third victim for Hasan. Moores and Calvin Harrison attacked defiantly before departing in consecutive overs. Moores was bowled driving loosely – a first wicket of the season for skipper Rhodes – and Harrison, somewhat inevitably after being tempted by several short deliveries on the leg side, miscued one to long leg.Rhodes picked up his second when Jake Ball fended a short ball to first slip and one over of spin from Danny Briggs was enough to tempt last man Dane Paterson to put one down the throat of long-off.There was an argument for Rhodes not enforcing the follow-on, given the rising heat and the effort put in by his bowlers to staunch any threat of a Nottinghamshire recovery. If discussed it was rejected, although he might have thought about it again as openers Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed put on 61 without too many alarms. But as in the first innings, the introduction of Hasan changed the picture. Hameed, misreading a ball angled in by the Pakistan quick, lost his off stump offering no shot. Two balls later, new man Matt Montgomery was hit in front, beaten for pace.Clarke, patient at first, hit three lovely straight drives to the boundary off Rhodes but just as it seemed he and Slater might assert themselves and get the innings back on an even keel, the captain brought Briggs on for Hasan at the pavilion end and Slater, perhaps misjudging the bounce, spooned the ball tamely to short midwicket.Responsibility now sat heavily on Clarke, who passed his first test alongside Lyndon James by ensuring Nottinghamshire reached tea with no more casualties. By then he was on 53 and though 40 of them had come in boundaries he had taken them without unnecessary risk.James, by contrast, was content simply to block, and the combination worked well as Clarke – helped by four boundaries in one over off the medium pace of Rhodes – moved into the 80s for the first time this season until James, having tucked one away nicely through midwicket for only his third boundary in an hour and three-quarters at the crease, was drawn into playing a ball from Rushworth that took the edge and had him caught at first slip. The fourth-wicket partnership had added exactly 100, easily the biggest of the match for Nottinghamshire, although the deficit remained a daunting 230 runs.Clarke, who had gone past fifty eight times since his 109 against Yorkshire in the final fixture of the 2021 season without being able to convert, picked up a couple more boundaries off Oliver Hannon-Dalby to move into the 90s but looked nervous as he edged closer to three figures and when he drove Hasan through extra cover to reach the milestone with his 19th boundary it prompted no more than a low-key celebration, perhaps acknowledging that his side still had much to do to save the game.

Saha and Gill's aggression sets up huge Titans win

Defending champions smash 227 against LSG to open up a three-point lead at the top of the table

Deep Dasgupta: Shubman Gill’s approach to spin is like Virender Sehwag

Gujarat Titans are all but through to the playoffs of IPL 2023 after their 56-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in Ahmedabad. Titans now have 16 points from 11 games and a net run rate of 0.951, by far the best in the league. The win was set up by Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill who added 142 in 12.1 overs for the first wicket – the highest partnership for Titans. Saha scored 81 off 43 and Gill finished on an unbeaten 94 off 51 to power them to 227 for 2.In response, Quinton de Kock, playing his first match of the season, and Kyle Mayers gave LSG a start of 88 in 8.2 overs. But once Mohit Sharma dismissed Mayers to break that stand, the incoming batters couldn’t keep up with the required rate. The contest was also significant because Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya became only the second set of brothers to captain their respective sides against each other in T20 cricket. The Hussey brothers faced off twice during the Big Bash League in 2015-16 when Mike was leading Sydney Thunder and David Melbourne Stars.Saha blazes awayAt Titans, Saha’s role with bat is to attack in the powerplay, and he couldn’t have done more justice to it. He started with two fours off Mohsin Khan in the opening over. The first one had come via an outside edge but that didn’t bother Saha. In the next over, he picked up a six and four off Avesh Khan.Mohsin came in for more punishment in the fourth over with Saha hitting two fours and two sixes. By the end of that over Titans had cruised to 53; Saha’s contribution was 46.With a six over long-on off Yash Thakur, Saha brought up his half-century, off just 20 balls in the sixth over. By the halfway stage, Saha had moved to 74 off 37 but his innings came to an end when he dragged Avesh Khan to deep square leg.Rashid Khan took a brilliant catch to dismiss Kyle Mayers•BCCIGill takes overGill had spent most of the powerplay watching Saha from the non-striker’s end. He faced just five balls in the first four overs and was on 9 off ten at one point. But soon he was matching Saha shot for shot, even outshining him.It started with a six off Krunal; Deepak Hooda jumped at long-off and tried to lob it back but failed. Shortly after that, Gill launched Ravi Bishnoi for two sixes in one over, and raised his fifty off 29 balls. There were six sixes but no four in his first 68 runs. After Saha fell, and Gill started tiring a bit in the harsh Ahmedabad heat, Hardik and David Miller chipped in with cameos. Gill had reached 85 when Thakur started the last over of the innings. He hit the first two balls for a six and a two, reaching 93 with four to go. But that was followed by a dot and single. Miller pulled the penultimate ball for a four and took a single off the final one, with Gill finishing six short of what would have been his maiden IPL hundred.Mayers, de Kock respond in kindMohammed Shami started Titans’ defence with a four-run over. But in the next three overs, Mayers and de Kock smashed nine fours and six. With LSG racing to 50 in four overs, Hardik was forced to introduce both wristspinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad inside the powerplay. Still, there was no respite for Titans. The LSG openers hit three fours and a six in the Afghan duo’s first two overs.Mohit brings Titans backWhen Titans were batting, a couple of slower balls had stuck in the surface. Mohit used the same trick to dismiss Mayers as the batter miscued one towards deep square leg, where Rashid, after running in diagonally to his right, completed the catch with a slide.Mayers’ wicket slowed LSG down drastically. The next six overs, including the one in which he fell, brought LSG just 33 runs. It left them needing 107 from the last six overs.De Kock tried to revive the chase with a six off Mohit but the bowler bounced back by dismissing Marcus Stoinis with yet another slower ball. In the next over, Rashid sent back de Kock to effectively end the game. Ayush Badoni tried to reduce the margin of the loss before Mohit dismissed him and Krunal to finish with 4 for 29.

Arsenal's "phenomenal" 9/10 star just proved why he's better than Nwaneri

Well, Jurrien Timber told the press that Arsenal wanted to “change the narrative” ahead of their Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven last night, and we reckon they did that and more.

Mikel Arteta’s side went into the game off the back of a defeat and draw in the Premier League but came flying out the blocks, scoring three goals in the first half and another four in the second.

It’s only the second time in the club’s history that they’ve scored seven in the competition, and amazingly, they could have scored a few more.

Unsurprisingly, there were brilliant performances all over the pitch for the Gunners, but two starters stood out, one of whom was Ethan Nwaneri.

Nwaneri's incredible performance vs PSV

It was yet another start in the Champions League for the 17-year-old Nwaneri, and yet again, he was spectacular.

The Hale End dynamo was here, there and everywhere against the Dutch side, taking on defenders, playing superb crosses into the box and playing his part in the visitors’ stifling high press.

On top of that, the tremendously exciting prospect also grabbed his second goal in the competition when he got on the end of a pass from fellow academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly and drilled it into the roof of the net.

We were not the only ones blown away by the Enfeild-born star’s display, as the Standard’s Simon Collings awarded him an 8/10 match rating at full-time and described it as just ‘another magical performance’.

While it might sound a little hyperbolic, it’s an opinion backed up by the statistics, as in his 71 minutes of action, he produced a combined expected goal and assists figure of 0.65, scored a goal, took two shots on target, succeeded in 100% of his dribbles and took 24 touches.

In short, Nwaneri was utterly brilliant last night, but one of his teammates was even better and put in his best performance of the season.

Arsenal's best player vs PSV

In good news for Arteta, you could make a case for a number of his players being the best against PSV last night, but when it comes down to brass tax, we reckon it has to be Martin Odegaard.

Now, it would be fair to say that the Norwegian’s first-half performance encapsulated his overall season in the sense that it wasn’t great.

However, in the second 45, the former Real Madrid wonderkid came to life and put in what has to be his best display of the campaign so far.

The “phenomenal” midfielder, as dubbed by Paul Merson, was pulling the strings in the middle of the park, scored two well-taken goals and picked up an assist from the sensational ball he played into Riccardo Calafiori’s path for the Gunners’ seventh.

Again, we weren’t the only ones blown away by the 26-year-old as, like the UCL themselves, Collings named him his man of the match and awarded him a 9/10 rating, writing that it was a true ‘captain’s performance.’

Unsurprisingly, the Drammen-born ace’s statistics more than justify his praise.

In 94 minutes of action, he produced a combined expected goals and assists figure of 0.58, scored two goals, provided one assist, took 53 touches, played three key passes, was accurate in 100% of his long balls, took two shots on target and created one big chance.

Ultimately, Arsenal were spectacular against PSV last night, and while Nwaneri was one of their most impressive players, Odegaard was somehow just that little bit better.

India women cricketers to earn same match fee as male counterparts, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirms

India’s centrally-contracted women cricketers are set to earn the same match fees as their male counterparts for appearances in international matches, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in accordance with the board’s new pay equity policy.Under this policy, the women – like the men – will earn INR 15 lakh for a Test, 6 lakh for an ODI and 3 lakh for a T20I. These amounts are significantly higher than the flat INR 1 lakh that India women players currently earn for an ODI or T20I appearance, and 2.5 lakh for a Test match. While describing the move as “the first step towards tackling discrimination”, Shah thanked the BCCI’s Apex Council for its support in implementing the move, which he said was a “commitment to our women cricketers.”As things stand, there are no changes to the BCCI’s annual retainers for women players. Currently, those in the highest retainer bracket take home INR 50 lakh, while Grade B and Grade C are valued at INR 30 lakh and INR 10 lakh respectively. In comparison, the male cricketers are divided into four categories with Grade A+ players taking home INR 7 crore, and those in Grades A, B and C collecting INR 5 crore, 3 crore and 1 crore respectively. ESPNcricinfo understands the BCCI has been engaging with the country’s top women cricketers to work out changes to the annual retainers. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, is believed to have attended a meeting held at the board’s Mumbai headquarters.Contracts and match fees aside, the inaugural women’s IPL, which the BCCI formally announced at the Annual General Meeting earlier this month, is also understood to have been on the agenda with the board putting together a process for TV rights and franchise ownership. There are also discussions ongoing over whether the league will follow a draft process or an auction for the players.India women have had significant success in recent months. They followed their silver-medal finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in August with a record 3-0 ODI series sweep of England in England in September. Earlier this month, India beat Sri Lanka to clinch a record seventh Asia Cup crown in Bangladesh. They are set to host Australia next for five T20Is in November and December.
