Six teams will take part in the tournament, which was last held in December 2019

“There was a bit of uncertainty regarding the BPL” – Ismail Haider Mallick, BPL governing council chairman•BCB

The 2021-22 Bangladesh Premier League will take place from January 21 to February 18. The players’ draft will be held on December 27 in Dhaka, although the participating teams are allowed to sign one Bangladeshi and three overseas players outside the draft.Teams are required to register at least three overseas and ten local players (except those signed outside the draft) from the draft. During a BPL match, a team has to pick three overseas players. If picked in the draft, the overseas players can earn between US$ 20,000 and 75,000, while the local players will earn between BDT five lakh (approx. US$ 5,555) and 70 lakh (approx. US$ 77,700).Six teams will take part in the tournament, last held in December 2019, with four previous owners having bought franchises from the BCB.”There was a bit of uncertainty regarding the BPL,” Ismail Haider Mallick, BPL governing council chairman, said. “We had to consider whether the Bangladesh team can finally play in New Zealand due to the Covid situation. We were prepared to hold the BPL. Six teams have registered with us. We have a few conditions for them – they have to guarantee the participation money. They have to make this payment before the tournament starts.”The tournament will be played in three venues across Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram. The Bangladesh team will return home from New Zealand on January 14 or 15, which leaves them with a few days to prepare for the T20 competition. The champions will get BDT one crore (approx. US$ 111,100) while the runners-up side will get BDT 50 lakhs (approx. US$ 55,555).

Fantasy Football: The best low owned midfielders for Gameweek 7 in FPL

Fantasy Premier League managers were left in one of two camps in Gameweek 6 – the have Cole Palmers and the have nots. Whichever side you found yourself on, Football FanCast have found three differential midfielders to move you up your mini leagues in Gameweek 7.

To qualify for our list, the players must have a total expected goal involvement (xGI) this season of more than 2.0 and be less than 10% owned.

3

Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool, £6.5m, 2% owned

Dominik Szoboszlai for Liverpool

With all the excitement surrounding Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold in this season’s FPL, the new role Arne Slot has handed to Szoboszlai has gone slightly under the radar. The Hungary international is playing more advanced than he did under Jurgen Klopp, similar to the position in which he racked up 10 goals and 13 assists during his final season with RB Leipzig.

FPL: The best cheap Joao Pedro replacements, low owned strikers on wildcard

The Seagulls striker is facing a spell on the sidelines – but who should you bring in instead?

By
Ben Goodwin

Sep 26, 2024

His xGI per 90 minutes stands at 0.39, with two assists coming his way, while he also has a goal and assist apiece in the Champions League, end product which should translate into domestic action before too long.

The 23 year-old’s late runs into the box saw him rack up a huge 0.7 expected goal chance last time out against Wolves, which was saved, but showed signs of what’s to come with his new found freedom under Slot.

2

Dwight McNeil, Everton, £5.6m, 5% owned

Dwight McNeil for Everton

Okay, maybe we’re a little late to this one, but McNeil’s stunning brace to turn things around for the Toffees against Crystal Palace shows very few signs of being a flash in the pan. In fact, the former Burnley star racked up more expected goal involvements in four of the previous five games than he did in the 2-1 win last weekend.

Sean Dyche will be desperate to prove to the incoming new owners that he deserves to keep his job, and he expects McNeil to be a big part of that, having played the winger in all but eight minutes of the league season so far. With upcoming fixtures against Newcastle, Ipswich, Fulham and Southampton, McNeil suddenly looks like one of the best assets in the game for a short-term punt.

1

James Maddison, Tottenham, £7.5m, 5% owned

Much like Szoboszlai, Maddison’s value as an FPL asset has gone slightly under the radar due to the presence of high profile teammates such as Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke. However, Maddison’s xGI of 4.81 this season is by far the highest in the Spurs squad and actually the fourth best in the league, behind only Salah, Palmer and of course Erling Haaland.

Maddison is also not under any threat of rotation having started every league fixture so far this season, and faces some favourable upcoming fixtures after the international break.

The England international – who is desperate to show he belongs as a Three Lions regular – is now undoubtedly one of the best and most underrated midfielders in FPL this season.

Newcastle eyeing £75m Premier League duo to possibly replace Schar and Burn

Newcastle United are believed to be keen on signing two Premier League players worth a combined £75m to replace Fabian Schar and Dan Burn.

Newcastle transfer rumours

Newcastle’s defensive issues have been well-documented of late, in terms of Eddie Howe having a dearth of options at centre-back, due to long-term injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

For that reason, they have been linked with a move for AC Milan ace Fikayo Tomori, with the Englishman considered a strong option to come in at the heart of the defence.

Fikayo Tomori for AC Milan.

At the other end of the pitch, Botafogo forward Igor Jesus has also been mentioned as a potential target for the Magpies in one of the upcoming transfer windows. The 23-year-old is thought to be wanted by Arsenal as well, though, so Paul Mitchell may well have a job on his hands getting a deal over the line.

Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo is reportedly wanted by Newcastle, too, being seen as an upgrade on Miguel Almiron out wide, with the latter’s time at St James’ Park arguably on the verge of reaching its conclusion. It still appears that defenders are the primary targets, however, following a fresh update.

Newcastle eyeing £75m Premier League duo

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle are “closely monitoring” Wout Faes and Nikola Milenkovic from Leicester City and Nottingham Forest respectively, with the pair worth a combined £75m.

It is claimed that the Magpies are “undecided” over whether to hand Schar and Burn new deals at St James’, with their current contracts expiring at the end of this season. For that reason, they could be replaced by their fellow Premier League counterparts.

Leicester and Forest are expected to demand approximately £33.4m and £41.8m for Faes and Milenkovic respectively, in what would represent expensive deals.

This is a big decision that Newcastle have to make, considering what stalwarts Schar and Burn have been in recent years, making a combined 306 appearances for the club. Both are now in their 30s, however, so having them sign extensions would be risky, in terms of being ageing figures who could drift past their peak in no time at all.

For that reason, the Magpies could be entertaining the idea of bringing in Faes and Milenkovic in 2025, with the pair proving to be influential centre-backs at their respective clubs.

The former has played every single minute in the Premier League so far this season, averaging a whopping seven clearances per game, which is more than any Newcastle player, with Burn topping the pile with 4.9.

Meanwhile, Milenkovic has been a dominant performer for Forest, winning an average of 3.3 aerial duels per match in the league, and playing all 90 minutes of his side’s famous 1-0 victory away to Liverpool back in September.

Newcastle may regret losing £15m ace who is now playing better than Gordon

Newcastle United never got the best out of this star.

ByKelan Sarson Oct 14, 2024

While many Magpies supporters would likely be content to see Schar and Burn sign new short-term deals, given their consistency, next summer may be the right time to add younger blood to the squad. At 26 and 27, Faes and Milenkovic could tick that box.

'They need to break the bank for a big-time player' – Man Utd urged to launch £150m Jude Bellingham swoop with Real Madrid 'hierarchy' creating transfer opportunity

Manchester United have been urged to splash out £150 million to sign Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid by former Red Devils striker Dwight Yorke.

Man Utd told to make superstar signingAdvised to go for BellinghamEngland star will never be 'main guy' in MadridFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United have begun a new era after appointing Ruben Amorim as head coach and are hoping the Portuguese boss can restore the club to its former glories. The former Sporting manager has overseen a difficult start to life at Old Trafford but optimism has been fuelled in recent weeks by a 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool and a morale-boosting FA Cup third-round win over Arsenal.

AdvertisementAFPTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim is expected to dip into the transfer market as he reshapes his squad and has been advised to go all out for Bellingham. The England international has starred for Madrid since signing from Borussia Dortmund, winning La Liga and the Champions League, but Yorke has warned he will never be the "main guy" at Santiago Bernabeu with Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe around.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Yorke told CoinCasino.com: "Man United would need £150 million to have a chance of signing Jude Bellingham. Look at Man United's history, every two to three years, the club would bring in a high-profile signing. I can't remember the last big signing Man United have made, maybe Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016. Man United need to make rivals go 'oof, what a signing'.  They need to break the bank for a big-time player, like Real Madrid do. Bellingham would be the perfect player to sign, but I'm sure he'll want to stay a few more years at Real Madrid and turn things around for them this season. But, Bellingham will never be the main guy at the club now, Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe are higher than him in the pecking order. It reminds me of the trio of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Luis Figo.  We all know Mbappe is the top guy at the club, then it's Vinicius. I think Bellingham is ranked the third-most important player at Real Madrid. He'll know that too, he'll be sat in the dressing room with them and he knows where he is in that hierarchy at the club."

Amorim has already admitted January signings are unlikely at United as there are no funds available. Outgoings are possible, though, with Marcus Rashford having been linked with a host of clubs after being frozen out by Amorim, while Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly become a transfer target for Napoli.

Spin is Sri Lanka's best bet against India's IPL superstars

The hosts have lost all but one of their last 13 completed T20Is

Muralidaran: Sri Lanka better suited to T20Is than ODIs

Big pictureAfter snatching rare ODI Super league points against what was arguably a third-string India side, Sri Lanka will now have to deal with some of the best IPL players in this T20I series. And they might have to do so without the top scorer and top wicket-taker in the LPL – Danushka Gunathilaka (suspended for bio-bubble breach while on tour in England) and Wanindu Hasaranga (recovering from injury). Sri Lanka’s recent form is also stacked against them: they have lost all but one of their last 13 (completed) T20Is. That solitary victory came against West Indies, the reigning world T20 champions, on a sluggish surface in Antigua, where their spinners clicked in unison. On Friday, too, it was the spinners who fashioned Sri Lanka’s victory and although India are better than West Indies in dealing with slower bowlers, spin could be Sri Lanka’s best bet on a potentially helpful Khettarama track. Akila Dananjaya, playing his first ODI of the series, posed a threat by turning the ball both ways while rookie left-arm fingerspinner Praveen Jayawickrama tricked batters with subtle changes in pace.Sri Lanka, by the way, haven’t qualified for the T20 World Cup main draw yet. They a top-two finish in the first round – where they are grouped alongside Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia – to enter the Super 12 stages. As for India, they are bona-fide contenders for the title along with West Indies and England. This series will be the last chance for them to fine-tune their plans before the tournament.Related

Can Varun Chakravarthy prove his fitness and emerge as the point of difference in India’s attack? Yuzvendra Chahal or Rahul Chahar: who will be India’s first-choice legspinner for the World Cup? Can Prithvi Shaw keep going and stake his claim for a more permanent role at the top in white-ball internationals? Chetan Sakariya or T Natarajan(injured and hence not on this tour)? Chopra: Make or break series for Chakravarthy

In the spotlightChamika Karunaratne has often done the tough job for Sri Lanka this white-ball series – finish the innings with the bat and take up bowling when the side needs a breakthrough – and he has done it with gusto. The 25-year old has a variety of attractive shots in his locker, including the helicopter, and there are shades of Dhammika Prasad in his bowling, especially when he pounds the deck. He could also make his T20I debut on Sunday.Over the years, Sri Lanka have had many mystery spinners who have bamboozled oppositions – remember Ajantha Mendis and Sachithra Senanayake? – and now India have one of their own in Varun Chakravarthy. Chakravarthy can bowl in the powerplay, in the middle overs, and also in the slog, which is why the team management is giving him another crack at international cricket, despite having failed two fitness tests in the past.Team newsKasun Rajitha has been ruled out with injury while Hasaranga is likely to return to the team despite the short turnaround. If Hasaranga is fit, Jayawickrama will have to wait for his T20I debut. Sri Lanka might also consider bringing back Isuru Udana, who is more of a T20 specialist.Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Avishka Fernando, 2 Minod Bhanuka (wk), 3 Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 4 Dhananjaya de Silva, 5 Charith Asalanka, 6 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 7 Chamika Karunaratne, 8 Wanindu Hasaranga/Praveen Jayawickrama, 9 Isuru Udana, 10 Dushmantha Chameera, 11 Akila DananjayaChakravarthy, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal were the only three players from India’s squad who didn’t get a game in the preceding ODI series. While there are no real vacancies in the batting line-up, Chakravarthy could potentially make his first international appearance. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar are likely to slot back into the XI, having been rested among six changes on Friday.India (probable): 1 Prithvi Shaw, 2 Shikhar Dhawan (capt), 3 Ishan Kishan (wk), 4 Sanju Samson, 5 Suryakumar Yadav, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Krunal Pandya/K Gowtham, 8 Deepak Chahar, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Varun Chakravarthy, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal/Rahul ChaharPitch and conditionsThe Khettarama pitch could take turn as it had done during the ODIs. The overhead conditions might be cloudy, with chances of rain on Sunday evening too.Stats and trivia Three batters had scored more runs than Shaw’s 308 in the first half of IPL 2021 but nobody in the top 20 had a greater strike rate than his 166.48. Sri Lanka last won a bilateral T20I series in 2019, when a second-string side toured Pakistan and surprised them. They’ve lost each of their next five rubbers since. India have won 13 of the 19 T20Is they have played against Sri Lanka.Quotes”I did change a few little things between the England series and this one. I had an issue with my front leg going to the off side too much. So I corrected that in training, and then because of that I was able to get back in the runs.”
“After I came to Mumbai Indians in 2018, things started changing a bit. I got to know what my responsibility is, how do I go about my game, how can I take it one step ahead.”

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Gomez looked set to leave Liverpool in the summer and move to Newcastle in a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon head the other way. However, the proposed transfer broke down and Gomez – who is Liverpool's longest-serving player – ended up staying. Gomez started the season behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah in the pecking order but injuries have meant he has featured for Arne Slot's team and made 11 appearances so far in all competitions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Gomez has actually started Liverpool's last three games, against Girona, Newcastle and Manchester City, due to Konate's injury and will be hoping to continue in the starting XI alongside Van Dijk. The 27-year-old says leaving the Reds was on the cards in the summer but he is delighted to be continuing his career on Merseyside.

  • WHAT GOMEZ SAID

He told reporters: "Yeah, [leaving] was definitely for real. But my focus was always on the club. I know how blessed I am to be here. It will be 10 years next summer. I don’t take that for granted. It is the best club in the world in my eyes and (after the transfer didn’t happen) it was quickly a case of adapting and getting right back into the swing of things. It was quickly put to bed. That’s football. I am a big believer in focusing on the present. To be somewhere nearly 10 years and not have any blips would not be natural, which probably speaks about my ambition."

Gomez also offered some insight into playing for Slot at Liverpool, adding: "It’s a process from a tactical standpoint. It is definitely not as straightforward as just seeing a pass and playing it. A lot of it is about how we can get three-v-twos around the the pitch and try not to overload on one side. Just because the pass is on, it doesn’t mean you should play it, just wait on the ball a bit more. It has been great to learn. You just want to get better and improve as a player and the coach is helping me and the rest of the boys to do that. Arne is constantly reminding us that we cannot get complacent. The coaching staff and the gaffer’s attention to detail is second to none. I think even when we come in at half-time sometimes when things are not going our way, the ability to adapt in certain situations and guide us in the right way is so good."

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL

Slot has his Liverpool team flying high after a stellar start to the season. The Reds are top of the standings in the Premier League and the Champions League ahead of Saturday's trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.

Sky Sports: Celtic bid £6.5m to sign versatile ace, personal terms agreed

Celtic have made a bid worth more than £6m to sign a new midfielder who has already said yes to a Parkhead move.

Rodgers urges Celtic to splash the cash after selling O’Riley

The Hoops are set to be in for a frantic end to the transfer window, with Matt O’Riley’s big-money move to Brighton & Hove Albion finally going through. Brendan Rodgers’ side have made a perfect start to the Scottish Premiership campaign and are looking to add to their four signings so far – Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo, Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel.

Alongside Engels: Celtic can ease O'Riley blow by signing "remarkable" gem

With money seemingly there to spend after cashing in on O’Riley, Rodgers appeared to urge the club to splash the cash in the final days of the market.

“We can't be happy just to make our money and build our pot because the bottom line is on the pitch. That's the bottom line. The supporters, they pay the money. I look back to the Covid times here, the Celtic supporters sold the stadium out and they weren't allowed in it.

“So we have the duty to put the best team on the pitch. That's what we'll do and look to do. It's taken a bit longer than I would have liked. But if we can do it by Friday, strengthen the squad, we'll be in a really, really good place.

“The team is in a good place, mentally, tactically, how they're playing. But we want to strengthen and have that depth. It's taken a lot longer than I would have liked as the football manager. That's my brutally honest answer on it. But I will repeat this. If we get them in, then there's still a long season ahead. So it's important that we do get that. And I have belief that we will do.”

Now, it looks like they are willing to do just that.

Celtic make £6.5m bid for Arne Engels – Sky Sports

Celtic have been pushing to sign FC Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels and according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the two parties have already agreed on personal terms ahead of a move to Glasgow.

Now, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, a £6.5m offer has been made to Augsburg for Engels, although Plettenberg recently claimed he is valued at up to £10m.

The 20-year-old has picked up 30 caps for Belgium's youth sides across four different age groups and appears to be going from strength to strength at Augsburg, with his Transfermarkt valuation rocketing to a career-high €9m in May.

Engels would offer Rodgers and Celtic a versatile option as, despite being a central midfielder primarily, can also turn out as a right midfielder or as a right-back, and by the looks of things, he could be on his way to Scotland before the deadline.

Imagine him next to Ndidi: Leicester plot move for "fabulous" PL midfielder

Leicester City fans would have been fearing the worst when speculation began to mount about Wilfred Ndidi walking away from the club this summer, knowing that they could have another Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall situation on their hands.

The Nigerian central midfielder departing the King Power Stadium would have really left a lot of holes in the middle of the park for the Foxes to deal with, and so there was a palpable sense of relief when these rumours were eventually rubbished, and the long-standing Leicester servant put pen to paper on a new contract instead.

Still, that doesn't mean Steve Cooper and Co aren't on the hunt for more recruits in the centre of the pitch, with one target even possessing shades of Ndidi's game.

Leicester plotting move for wantaway Spurs ace

According to a report by Football Insider, Leicester are now plotting a move to try and tempt wantaway Tottenham Hotspur gem Oliver Skipp to the East Midlands this summer.

The fringe midfielder was being eyed up by Leeds United previously this transfer window, but with Skipp reportedly not wanting to drop down to the Championship to link up with his ex-Norwich City boss in the form of Daniel Farke, the Foxes could be in the driver's seat over his wanted signature now.

What Skipp can offer Leicester

Snapping up Skipp would significantly bolster the Foxes in the midfield positions, with Michael Golding also a new purchase that has added strength in depth in central midfield already, as Leicester strive to stay up in the Premier League confidently and not by the skin of the teeth.

Signing the 23-year-old battler could also be a long-term measure as well, with Ndidi perhaps moving on further down the line after this new extended contract has expired, with Skipp also perhaps possessing the grit and determination Leicester need to become an established top-flight team again away from their African star and pursuing attacking talents such as Matias Soule.

Skipp could also take inspiration from Ndidi by becoming a beloved figure at the King Power, as opposed to being largely a bench option as he is currently is in North London, with just five Premier League starts gifted to him last campaign by Ange Postecoglou.

In contrast, his 27-year-old counterpart has amassed 273 appearances for the Foxes since joining from Genk in 2017, and will be a crucial part of Cooper's side next season back in the top division.

Looking at Skipp's numbers from his impactful loan spell out at Norwich, it's obvious to see why Farke is clamouring for a reunion with his former ace this summer up at Elland Road, with the 23-year-old battling away valiantly across the campaign to help promotion be achieved. Like Ndidi, he's clearly got the ability to break up the play and subsequently distribute it well.

Thus, with the Foxes potentially looking at a campaign where they'll do more defending, the pairing could even strike up a formidable partnership in the middle of the park. While the Leicester number 25 operates as a more offensively-minded midfield option when glancing at the table above, Skipp will be more than content at picking up the dirty work when needed.

The Tottenham man would also have a familiar face next to him in the Leicester ranks in his ex-Spurs teammate Harry Winks, with the 23-year-old also more than capable of performing in the top-flight under pressure, having accumulated 77 Premier League appearances across his playing days to date.

Tottenham great Glenn Hoddle has even described the ex-Norwich loanee as "fabulous" in the past when he's pulled on a Spurs strip, with Cooper potentially falling head over heels for Skipp if he does join Leicester soon.
