He joined Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi in the list when he reached 24 runs in the first ODI against Ireland in Sylhet. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the format for Bangladesh behind Tamim Iqbal, who has 8146 runs.In the 20th over of the Bangladesh innings, Shakib took a single off Curtis Campher to reach the landmark.During Bangladesh’s previous ODI, against England earlier this month, Shakib reached 300 wickets with his four-wicket haul. He got to the landmark with the wicket of Rehan Ahmed in the third ODI in Chattogram. It made him the third left-arm spinner, after Jayasuriya and Daniel Vettori, to reach the milestone.Shakib is also Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in Tests and T20Is with 231 and 128 wickets respectively. Shakib is also currently the fifth-highest wicket-taker in T20s with 443 wickets. He is one of only two players – Dwayne Bravo being the other one – to have achieved the feat of 6000 runs, 400 wickets and 50 catches in T20s.

As the race for the 2025 Ballon d'Or heats up, both Real Madrid and Barcelona have hopefuls in the race with Mbappe and Yamal among the nominees. Yamal is just 18 and hoping to become the youngest player ever to win the Golden Ball. In 1997, Ronaldo won the award at the age of 21.

Gerrard, though, believes his former club-mate Owen was even better than both nominees when he was a teenager. The former England striker won the Ballon d'Or in 1999, at the age of just 22, and scored 40 goals in 79 games before turning 20.

WHAT GERRARD SAID

Gerrard told : "Well, the other two are chasing the Ballon d'Or and one's got one. So I think you'd have to respect the fact that Michael Owen has been voted the best player in the world.

"I played with him. He was an incredible teenager. So I'd have to say Michael Owen [as the best]. But what I would say is: Mbappé and Lamine Yamal, wow, they're two incredible players."

Relembre abaixo!

Liverpool lining up summer deal to sign serial winner who may replace Salah

With Mohamed Salah’s contract continuing to tick down, Liverpool are reportedly lining up a summer swoop to sign a potential replacement who knows exactly how to win a league title.

Liverpool transfer news

The Egyptian King was once again at the centre of the positives at Anfield against Southampton as Liverpool survived a first-half scare to eventually win 3-1, courtesy of Salah’s two penalties. Now the Reds’ third all-time top goalscorer, it becomes more and more surprising by the day that their history-maker is on course to leave as a free agent this summer.

If his goals weren’t impressive enough, Salah has had something for everyone this season and is closing in on Thierry Henry’s Premier League assists record with 17 to his name – four more are required to beat the Arsenal legend’s long-standing total.

With nine games to do it, the Liverpool star looks destined to create history once again.

However, as Anfield witnesses greatness, that new contract is yet to come, and those on Merseyside have seemingly been forced to think about potential summer replacements, as if truly replacing Salah is even possible.

Liverpool scouting new goalscorer to replace star who saved them vs Saints

He’s flying this season.

ByBarney Lane Mar 8, 2025

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now lining up a summer swoop to sign Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich, who value their winger at around €40m (£34m) which is ironically not too dissimilar from the price the Reds paid for Salah in 2017.

Unlike Salah, however, Coman would not be arriving at the peak of his powers. At 28 years old, the Frenchman has struggled for game time ahead of the likes of Michael Olise at Bayern Munich, and if Liverpool want to replace arguably the best player in the world, they need a consistent star.

"Incredible" Coman could receive impossible task

There was once a time when Coman was asked to step out of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben’s shadow to become Bayern’s star player, before doing exactly that.

Now, the Frenchman looks to have been returned to the shadows amid the arrival of Olise, who has stolen the spotlight in style since joining from Crystal Palace.

Having won eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League during his time in Germany, it could easily be said that Coman has completed life at the Bavarians, making this summer an ideal time to move on.

Bayern Munich's KingsleyComancelebrates

If that is to be the case, he could receive an even tougher task than the one he was handed all those years ago in Germany. Instead of Robben and Ribery, it could be Salah who he is asked to replace as Liverpool desperately look to ease any potential blow caused by the Egyptian’s expiring contract.

Previously dubbed “incredible” by former manager Hansi Flick, it remains to be seen whether a summer departure would see the Frenchman get back to his best form or whether he’s simply past the peak of his powers.

Women's game caught in a Test conundrum

“It’s called Test cricket for a reason,” is one of the well-worn tropes used to describe the challenges and the thrills of the game’s longest format, which is still seen as the pinnacle for most of its players, including women. But, as much as women want in on the red-ball game, they also want proper preparation for the longest format to fully enjoy the experience of playing in it.”Prepping for Test matches is completely different from a conditioning point of view and from a loads point of view. And if you’ve never played it before, it’s going to be quite hard. It’s going to be taxing on your body,” Nadine de Klerk, South Africa’s allrounder told ESPNcricinfo on the podcast. “I feel like because we weren’t quite sure how it works against England, we were a bit like headless chickens. But that’s a nice thing as well, because you learn from it.”De Klerk was one of nine debutants when South Africa played their first Test in eight years, against England last June and reflected on it as a learning experience. “We played some decent cricket for a team that had nine debutants. It was quite hard on the bodies. Getting out of bed the next day after bowling 14 or 16 overs in a day, you have to be up and down in the field, and being an allrounder, so you have to bat as well, was tough. But we didn’t lose against them, which is great,” she said. The draw at Taunton was the sixth successive such result in women’s Tests and the 93rd in a 144-match history. That means almost two-thirds of women’s Tests have no winners or losers, which could speak to a more tentative approach in the game’s most elite format, that most women’s Tests are played over four days or, as de Klerk discussed, that there is inadequate preparation to ready players to force a result. “We weren’t quite sure how to play. Prep should be changed accordingly and you have to change the way you train,” she said. But how?South Africa’s women’s set-up, like most others, does not include a multi-day domestic competition. That stands to reason given the cost of staging those fixtures and the absence of any real reason to have them. Women’s Tests are played infrequently – those 144 Tests have taken place in 90 years, since December 1934 – and, these days, very rarely as anything more than one-offs. The last time a two-Test series took place was between India and England in 2006. Simply put, there isn’t enough room in the calendar to justify Test-match specific training so players have to learn on the job, as South Africa did, or by watching other teams. De Klerk will have the opportunity for the latter later this month. She’s currently playing regional cricket for The Blaze and lives in an apartment across the road from Trent Bridge, venue of the Women’s Ashes Test. She has witnessed the sense of anticipation first hand and hopes to be among the spectators to take in the occasion. “I’ve seen the banners advertising the game and I’ve heard there’ve been quite a few tickets sold,” she said.Nadine de Klerk celebrates a wicket for The Blaze•Getty Images

At the time of writing, 11,000 tickets had been snapped up for the Test, which confirms a record level of interest in the game but one that is unlikely to be satisfied by the schedule. There are only six Tests pencilled in for the current women’s FTP, which runs from May 2022 to April 2025 and they only involve four countries: England, Australia, South Africa and India. Two of the six matches are Ashes Tests, while South Africa and India don’t play against each other, but only against England and Australia.”I think it’s quite harsh that we get to play England and Australia in a Test match, who play the Ashes every now and again and they get to play Test matches more often,” de Klerk said. “But, it’s okay because we are playing against the best in the world so if you want to learn your trade and figure out how Test cricket works, it’s probably best to do it against teams like Australia and England because they’ve done it quite a few times. That makes the challenge really good, I guess.”That England and Australia dominate the Test market is to be expected, and most starkly expressed in the women’s game. They have contested 51 matches – more than a third – out of all Women’s Tests played. West Indies, South Africa, India and New Zealand have all played more than 10 Tests each, but both West Indies and New Zealand last competed in the format 19 years ago, and neither have any Tests scheduled until at least 2025. To de Klerk’s point, it means most women’s national teams will not have the opportunities to be tested in cricket’s sternest way as the gap between the game’s haves and have nots continues to widen.

Arsenal looking to hijack AC Milan move to sign £50m Cunha teammate

Turning their attention towards the summer transfer window, Arsenal are now reportedly looking to hijack AC Milan’s move to sign a defensive reinforcement alongside interest in Matheus Cunha.

Arsenal transfer news

All but down and out in the Premier League title race thanks to knockout blows from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, Arsenal’s task is clearer than ever this summer. They must rebuild Mikel Arteta’s attack. That must be their priority if they want to finally end their wait for England’s biggest honour for the first time in over two decades.

With that priority in mind, it’s no surprise that the rumours have already been coming thick and fast as names such as Alexander Isak threaten to steal the headlines. As things stand, it certainly seems like the Newcastle United man is the Gunners’ number one target, but whether they can afford to match his reported £150m price tag is another question entirely.

Send him to Saudi: Arteta must sell Arsenal star who's a "bit of a moaner"

The Arsenal star has been disappointing this season.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Feb 27, 2025

If it’s not the Swede, meanwhile, then it may well be Cunha. After failing to secure a move to The Emirates or elsewhere in January, the Brazilian put pen to paper on a new deal at Wolverhampton Wanderers which reportedly includes a release clause of £62m. A far more affordable option than Isak, Arsenal are seemingly among those eyeing Cunha’s signature once again this summer.

He’s not the only Wolves star they could sign, either. According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are now looking to hijack AC Milan’s move to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer.

WolverhamptonWanderers' Rayan Ait-Nouri celebrates scoring their first goal

The Italian giants have reportedly been lining up a move to sign the left-back as a replacement for Theo Hernandez, who looks set to leave the San Siro this summer. Arsenal could yet stand in the way of that move, however, and perhaps even match Wolves’ €60m (£50m) price tag when the summer arrives.

"Talented" Ait-Nouri would add surprise attacking spark

If reports are to be believed and Ait-Nouri is on Arsenal’s radar, then those in North London could be about to see the end of central defenders inverting at full-back with natural players preferred in such a role. Ait-Nouri would certainly be a solid candidate if that is to be the case too, given how his attacking exploits would help to sharpen a blunt Arsenal attack.

A player who often steps onto the front foot and leaves his mark, Ait-Nouri is exactly the type of driving force Arteta needs to ignite his side’s attacking spark once again.

Earning plenty of praise during his time at Wolves, former manager Gary O’Neil told reporters when asked about the left-back: “I know he’s played a lot of games for Wolves and he’s extremely talented, but there’s still a lot of learning that he needs to do in his understanding of the game.”

At just 23 years old, there’s still plenty more to come from Ait-Nouri whether it’s at Wolves, AC Milan or, indeed, Arsenal.

Bumrah fit but selectors cautious, Pant sent to NCA before Australia Tests

Kohli and Rahul have been rested for T20Is, while Rohit was available only for ODIs

Sidharth Monga28-Dec-2022While he has started batting in the nets, Rohit Sharma is expected to be fully fit by the end of the first week of January, in time for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. That made him unavailable for the T20Is starting January 3. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have been rested after the full tour of Bangladesh. It is learnt that neither of them asked for the break, but the selectors felt they needed the rest.Jasprit Bumrah was declared fit and was available for selection, but the selectors don’t want to rush him back. They want to simulate training for him that replicates the workload of a proper match, and see how he holds up before he is brought back to international cricket. That is also the reason why Ravindra Jadeja, who was earlier named in the squad for the Bangladesh tour, is still out of international cricket. The selectors now want to see him in match simulation just to be sure of his match fitness.Related

Hardik to lead India in T20I series against Sri Lanka; Rohit returns for ODIs; Pant not in either squad

Rishabh Pant has been sent to the NCA for strength and conditioning before the Test series against Australia. The team management feels he will have a key role to play in the Tests, and needs this housekeeping break after playing 44 internationals this year. India need to win three of four Tests against Australia to qualify for the World Test Championship final.A significant development is the promotion of Hardik Pandya to full-time vice-captain in both formats, which comes as a recognition of his leadership ability. That should also be a sign that the place of Rahul, the previous vice-captain, is not set in stone in either white-ball format.Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped even though he captained the ODI side when the main players focused on T20Is in the last two years. In Rohit’s absence in the third ODI against Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan scored a double-century. There is also Shubman Gill fighting for the opening slot. Even Pant can’t be ruled out as an opener although his spot, for now, seems to be in the middle order where he scored a hundred against England three innings ago.One big concern for India as they enter the World Cup year is the unavailability of Prasidh Krishna, who was their point of difference in the middle overs with his height, pace and hard lengths. Prasidh sustained a back injury on the eve of India A’s series against New Zealand in September, and is yet to recover. That is probably why the net has been cast wider in the ODIs: Mohammed Shami is back, Arshdeep Singh is set to get a run, and Umran Malik is named in the squad as well.Deepak Chahar is yet to recover from the injury he sustained during the Bangladesh tour, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s name was not discussed at all, which points to his being dropped. The selectors seem to be settling in on Yuzvendra Chahal as the sole legspinner in the white-ball squads, which is why Ravi Bishnoi has been released after spending time with the squads last year.Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj have been given a break for the T20I series, and will be back for the ODIs.These teams were selected by the already sacked panel of selectors as the BCCI is yet to appoint the replacement panels. It is learnt that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ashok Malhotra, Sulakshana Naik and Jatin Paranjpe has been sent all the applications, but hasn’t shortlisted the candidates it wants to interview. It is expected a decision on the new panel will finally be announced in the first week of January.
