Tottenham fans comment on Son Heung-min ahead of West Ham clash

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min played the full 90 minutes as South Korea suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brazil in Tuesday’s international friendly.

The 27-year-old also played the whole game against Lebanon on November 14, meaning that it has been a fairly intense international break for the attacker.

As a result, he will not have much time to recover for Tottenham’s Premier League clash with West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, which is a huge fixture for a number of reasons.

Spurs have announced ahead of the derby that head coach Mauricio Pochettino has left the club, with Jose Mourinho being appointed as his successor on Wednesday.

And it will be fascinating to see what type of performance last season’s Champions League finalists produce against the Hammers.

A whole host of Spurs fans have been on social media reacting to the fact that Son played the full 90 against Brazil and some were not overly pleased whilst others simply offered their views on his outing.

A selection of the Twitter reaction is available to view below:

Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri is determined to prove that he is good enough to start

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Xherdan Shaqiri has endured somewhat of a frustrating spell since joining Liverpool, but he appears determined to change his fortunes.

The winger started just 15 games last season and has found himself in a similar position this campaign, having played just five minutes of the Reds’ opening four Premier League matches.

In an effort to increase his playing time he withdrew from the Switzerland squad, a bold move to make, but one that his national team manager Vladimir Petkovic doesn’t blame, due to the amount of international games he has played.

As a result, it is possible that the winger may choose to do the same again next month, particularly if he fails to impress Jurgen Klopp in the way he would have hoped for – although he faces a difficult challenge to start.

Though he is not short of quality, the ability of the playing personnel combined with the system that Klopp prefers makes it unlikely Shaqiri will become starter soon – with Mohamed Salah operating in his favoured right-wing position.

It is not the first occasion in which the Swiss has found himself out of starting contention, with his spell at Bayern Munich often seeing him reduced to a place on the bench, which resulted in him making a shock switch to Stoke City.

Having made that move once, he is now clearly determined to make a success of his latest stint playing at the highest level, and this latest move is sure to go down well with manager Klopp.

Liverpool are likely to compete for both the Premier League and Champions League this season – they lost just one game in the former last term and are the defending champions in the latter – and will likely be forced to rely upon their back-up players at times.

As a result, if Shaqiri can prove that he is fit and has the desire to play and perform well, then he could be the first option Klopp calls upon if one of Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino is struck down by injury.

His dedication could well be rewarded eventually, then.

Arsenal fans slam Cesc Fabregas as he talks about former Real Madrid links

[ad_pod ]

There was once a time when Cesc Fabregas was a hero at Arsenal.

Across eight seasons with the Gunners, the 110-time Spain international made 306 appearances in all competitions, scoring 59 times from their midfield.

However, in 2011 he returned to Barcelona. Whilst there were not many who could hold a grudge against him for that, his move to London rivals Chelsea in 2014 was not to be forgiven.

It appears that the 32-year-old could have made another big move as well, and a lot earlier than the eventual switch to Barcelona. In an interview with Spanish outlet AS, Fabregas has been speaking about a potential transfer to Real Madrid when he was just 18.

“They have the bigger mentality” – Spurs fans come to blows after the North London Derby in the video below…

He explained, “There were a lot of talks with Florentino, and with [Ramón] Calderón. They called me more than once or twice. The first time I was very young. I was 18 and they offered me a big salary, but I felt like I belonged at Arsenal. Wenger had bet the farm on me. I couldn’t leave.”

Whilst it may have been intended to show his loyalty to Arsenal at the time, it appears that the Gunners fans are unwilling to let sleeping dogs lie. Some have taken to Twitter to slam their former number four, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Manchester United’s Fred told to fight for his place by Brazil legend Rivaldo

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to Betfair, Brazil legend Rivaldo has told Fred to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the midfielder could be set for an Old Trafford exit this summer after enduring a rather difficult campaign.

However, Rivaldo has now insisted that it wouldn’t be the right decision for him to leave the club and instead urged him to showcase his true abilities.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “Things haven’t been easy for Fred at Manchester United and some people say he should find another club. But I disagree with that. He is a good player who needs to be patient and keep working hard to earn a starting position in the United midfield. I don’t think leaving would solve his problems, and it would be preferable to stay and keep fighting for his place.”

A point to prove

There’s no doubting that since his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, Fred has failed to really live up to the potential that heralded his arrival. The 26-year-old joined the Red Devils in a reported £47m deal amid claims that United’s rivals Manchester City were keen to take him to the Etihad.

But in a rather underwhelming campaign, the midfielder managed just a goal and assist apiece in 26 games across all competitions, and found himself on the periphery of United’s season.

However, the Brazilian could put that down to simply trying to adjust to the pace and physicality of English football, and if he can return to the sort of form that marked him out as an impressive player at Shakhtar, then there is no doubting he can still succeed at Old Trafford.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

In the season before his move to United, the 26-year-old averaged 2.9 tackles and 2.3 dribbles per game in the Champions League for Shakhtar; the kind of all-action displays United could do with in the middle of the park. As Rivaldo says, if Fred can knuckle down and really kick on his second season in the Premier League, he could become one of those cliche ‘like a new signing’ players at Old Trafford next season.

Signing Nicolas Pepe would have been a waste of money for Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

According to The Daily Mail’s Dominic King, Liverpool have “absolutely no interest” in signing Lille forward Nicolas Pepe this summer.

What’s the word?

Reports in recent weeks and months had suggested the Ivorian could be on his way out of the French side, and that Liverpool and Bayern Munich were amongst the leading candidates for his signature.

It had even been claimed by Lille’s president Gerard Lopez that Jurgen Klopp’s side had held discussions over possibly signing Pepe this summer.

Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…

However, the update from King appears to suggest the Reds might have cooled their interest in the 24-year-old for now at least, and that could well be the smart decision in the long-run.

A want, not a need

When Liverpool splashed out big-money to sign Virgil van Dijk and then Alisson, it was to address two positions that the Reds were quite visibly weak in. The duo came in and hit the ground running as first-team stars and were a major upgrade on what the Merseyside club previously had.

In Pepe’s case, the Reds boast two of the most outstanding wingers in European football, who shared the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season. Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were simply on fire last year and are surely amongst the first names on the team sheet.

Signing Pepe for the type of money reportedly being quoted would be perplexing. The kind of money needed to bring the Ivory Coast international to Anfield is what is usually spent on bringing in bona-fide starters. Pepe – for all his undeniable quality – would most likely only make the bench for the Reds.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The demand for a potential game-changing substitute – particularly in the wide areas – is understandable. But it doesn’t feel like an absolute necessity like it was when Klopp’s side chose to lure Van Dijk and Alisson to Anfield.

A move for Pepe would be the icing on the cake so to speak and the Reds are simply not built like some of their more wealthy counterparts in spending huge sums of money for bench players.

So whilst a move for Pepe – who is valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt –  may have improved the quality on the Reds’ bench massively, Klopp and the club are right to neglect such a costly signing given how little he would actually play.

Celtic striker Vakoun Bayo suffers pre-season injury setback

[ad_pod ]

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that striker Vakoun Bayo is suffering from a hamstring problem, speaking to official club outlet Celtic TV.

What’s the story?

Bayo signed for the club back in January but missed most of the second half of last season because of injury, featuring in just a few minutes of first-team action.

He returned to training for pre-season and looked sharp in a friendly against Austrian side Wiener SC on Saturday, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

Celtic fans aren’t happy about Arsenal’s bid for one of their key players…

Lennon though has confirmed he again has a hamstring issue, telling Celtic TV:

“Unfortunately we have to wait and see how he is. He felt a little twinge on the hamstring. He was looking really good as well.”

With the club left waiting on his status, the player is now a doubt for next Tuesday’s season opener away to FK Sarajevo in UEFA Champions League qualifying.

Will Celtic miss him?

Striker Odsonne Edouard is, thankfully for the Hoops, fit and healthy heading into the new season and played their most recent match against Swiss side St Gallen on Tuesday.

Leigh Griffiths, who missed the second part of last term because of personal problems, is now back and available for selection too, hitting red hot form in pre-season friendlies.

Watch Celtic Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Scotland international has netted a fantastic six goals so far in pre-season matches, including four against St Gallen’s U21s during a closed door game this week.

So the Hoops are covered in the striking department, but it’s still important for Bayo to get serious competitive action under his belt as soon as possible, especially since he was apparently impressing Lennon.
