Villa want Burnley’s Josh Brownhill

According to reports, Aston Villa are one of a number of Premier League sides interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill in the summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

Despite signing Morgan Sanson back in January from Ligue 1 side Marseille, it appears Dean Smith isn’t done with reinforcing Villa’s midfield options ahead of next season.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that the Midlands club have got their sights set on Brownhill, with the likes of West Ham, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Wolves also having scouted him over the past few months.

The report adds that Burnley are facing a battle to keep hold of the 25-year-old after a “hugely impressive campaign”.

He silenced Jack Grealish

Having only joined Burnley last year, Brownhill has already established himself as a key part of Sean Dyche’s side, making 23 appearances in the Premier League already.

One of his best performances in a Clarets shirt came in a 0-0 draw against Villa back in December, with the 25-year-old just overpowering Jack Grealish on the day – the Villa talisman lined up in the number ten role, with Brownhill part of the Burnley engine room.

While Grealish still tried to work his magic, the Burnley man looked to get tight to him all the time, making the contest as physical as possible.

The £17m-rated Brownhill made a mammoth five interceptions, which was comfortably more than any other player on the pitch, and double that of his impressive season average of 2.4 per game in the Premier League.

As well as constantly trying to stop Grealish getting the ball in dangerous areas, Brownhill was also strong in the challenge, winning seven of his 11 total duels – he’s won 4.9 per match this season.

It was no surprise then that Grealish ended up losing the ball on 11 occasions, while none of his six attempts on goal found the target. Brownhill was an absolute machine in the middle of the park for Burnley and completely silenced Villa’s main man.

If Johan Lange was watching the midfielder, it’s no surprise that he appears to be interested in making a move for him in the summer.

Meanwhile, this Villa target delivered a masterclass at the weekend…

Predicted Rangers Old Firm Derby XI

Rangers take on their Old Firm rivals in the Premiership on Sunday, with Steven Gerrard’s side looking to finish the league season unbeaten having already brought title number 55 to Ibrox.

The Gers were knocked out of the Europa League in midweek after suffering a 2-0 defeat at home against Slavia Prague, which was their first home defeat in just over a year.

Gerrard has some big calls to make when it comes to deciding who to start against Celtic, with Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun having both been sent off against the Czech side in midweek.

It also looks as if Nathan Patterson could miss the game at the weekend, which gives Gerrard a headache when it comes to selecting a right-back for the derby.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Gerrard to line his side up, with three changes from the team which started against Slavia on Thursday…

Allan McGregor continues in goal, having been one of Rangers’ most impressive performers so far this season.

There’s one change in defence as, in the absence of Patterson, Leon Balogun moves to right-back, which sees Filip Helander come back in to partner Connor Goldson.

After receiving racial abuse on Thursday, Gerrard should perhaps be mindful that Glen Kamara might not be in the right frame of mind to play on Sunday, so he is rested and Bongani Zungu replaces him in defensive midfield.

Joe Aribo and Steven Davis, the latter fresh from signing a new deal, start ahead of him in midfield, with the Nigerian dropping further back after featuring on the wing against Slavia.

This allows Ianis Hagi to return to the side in Gerrard’s third and final change, with Scott Arfield – who reportedly earns £17,500k per week at Rangers – dropping out after a disappointing display on Thursday.

Hagi completes the dangerous trio of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, with those three likely to be the key to whether or not Rangers can come away with all three points on Sunday.

Newcastle tipped to stay up under Bruce

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Rob Lee has backed Steve Bruce to keep Newcastle United in the Premier League, believing that staying up would have been the target when he took the job.

Bruce has been under immense pressure and criticism since taking the job in 2019 and has to work under an owner who clearly does not want to be at the club anymore.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/rob-lee-exclusive-newcastle-united-premier-league-steve-bruce” title=”Exclusive! Rob Lee’s thoughts on Newcastle”]

Newcastle have been deprived of attractive football and money being put into the club on a consistent base for years now and Lee blames the regression of the Magpies on Mike Ashley rather than Steve Bruce.

Lee told Football Fancast that he wants fans to remember Ashley has forced Newcastle to progressively get worse under his tenure.

He said: “Listen, it’s not a regression in 12 months. I’m not having this blaming Steve Bruce for the last 12 months.

“I think it’s been regressing for a long, long time. We all know the reason why, we all know the reason is the owner.

“He puts enough money in to keep it in the Premier League and I’m sure when Steve Bruce went in his remit would have been to stay in the Premier League.

“I think he’ll do that. I genuinely think he’ll do that.”

With an owner who is seemingly happy for Newcastle to finish 17th every season and a manager who has a record of keeping teams in the league, there may be room for optimism about the Magpies staying up.

Bruce will not be every Newcastle fans’ cup of tea but if he keeps them in the Premier League, it will seem like a job well done to the hierarchy.

Predicted Celtic XI vs Ross County

Celtic’s next test in their Premiership run will come this evening when they travel to Victoria Park to take on Ross County. With a five-game unbeaten streak on the go, the Hoops will hope that tonight will be another win to add to their run.

Whilst they may be down and out when it comes to the title race, Neil Lennon and his Bhoys will be looking to finish the season on a high. Runaway leaders Rangers are a mammoth 18 points ahead of the holding champions, but Celtic are trying to limit the damage taken before the term comes to a close.

The reverse fixture was a comfortable 2-0 win for the Hoops, which they will be hoping to recreate this evening. With that in mind, Football FanCast has predicted how Lennon will set-up to face Ross County…

A lot of the manager’s gambles this season have paid off in dividends. The main one being his decision to integrate summer signing David Turnbull into a regular first team starter.

He has been a driving force in Celtic’s engine room and looks untouchable in terms of his position in the lineup. He will undoubtedly start in midfield, accompanied by Ryan Christie, with Callum McGregor and Ismaila Soro in the holding positions.

One man who may also join them is Tom Rogic, who has been impressing with his form as of late. He didn’t start against Aberdeen last time out, but his recent display against St Mirren is enough to reward him with another start.

According to SofaScore, Rogic bagged himself a goal and an assist in Celtic’s 4-0 win on the road, and he also created further big goalscoring opportunity.

His ability to link up well with Odsonne Edouard is very exciting and another reason why Lennon should be pleased with his gambles this season.

The £16k-per-week versatile midfielder isn’t a guaranteed starter – indeed, he’s only played from the off nine times (out of 29) this term – but chances like these are his ticket into securing a spot in what could be a Premiership-winning side next season.

It means Albian Ajeti will have to drop to the bench in the only change from the win over Aberdeen.

In other news, Celtic must keep starting Ryan Christie this season…

Leeds star Pablo Hernandez was back to his best against Newcastle

When Leeds get going there are very few teams that can stop them.

Although they went behind against Newcastle, they were eventually ruthless and unstoppable on their way to winning 5-2.

It was a clinical emphatic performance full of class and everything you’d associate with a Marcelo Bielsa team.

He works his players hard and they keep going right until the final whistle. If there were any fears of burnout, they were quashed when Leeds scored three goals in the final 13 minutes.

It was a swashbuckling display that should have left Bielsa blown away, especially with one player.

No, we’re not talking about Jack Harrison or Rodrigo here, neither are we talking about the all-action Stuart Dallas. Instead, we’re talking about Pablo Hernandez.

The Spaniard has been at the centre of attention over the last few years, winning multiple Player of the Season awards at Leeds, quickly earning his place in Elland Road folklore.

However, his return to the Premier League hasn’t been very profitable. He’s started just two matches and before last night, had failed to contribute to a single goal.

For a 35-year-old, he is no longer in the prime of his career but there had been question marks over whether he had the quality for the top-flight.

Those concerns were answered on Wednesday evening in a magical eight-minute cameo that rolled back the years.

Hernandez, who earns £19k-per-week at Leeds, was brilliant as he picked up two assists after making just 13 touches. Remarkably, that was fewer touches than goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Spaniard didn’t even play too much in the final third, spending the vast majority of his time on the pitch inside their own half.

He completed 92% of his passes and lost the ball just once. If ever there was an indication that form is temporary, class is permanent, this was it.

Hernandez has had his fair share of doubters this term but this was evidence that he can still offer plenty to Leeds and Bielsa.

If he can provide this kind of magic from the bench regularly, he will have done his job no end.

Diego Cavalieri; Wellington Silva, Gum, Marlon e Giovanni formaram o setor defensivo. O meio de campo foi composto por Pierre, Cícero, Diego Souza, Gustavo Scarpa e Marcos Júnior. Os dois últimos mais avançados, pelas pontas, com o centroavante Fred, mais enfiado. No andamento do treinamento, Eduardo Baptista realizou algumas mudanças.

Kamil Grabara may have put his foot in it with recent Twitter comment

Kamil Grabara may have just squandered his chances of ever making his senior Liverpool debut following his recent comment on Twitter. The Poland youth international is currently out on loan with Danish club Aarhus GF, where he will spend the full 2020/21 season. He recently signed a new long-term deal with the Merseyside outfit, but he is currently behind the likes of Alisson, Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher in the pecking order for The Reds. With 21-year-old Kelleher looking for a short-term move away from Anfield, the path could have opened for Grabara to challenge Adrian. However, after laughing at Oliver Holt’s report of Liverpool monitoring Jack Butland, he may have just placed himself even further down the pecking order.

Rookie error from Grabara

Grabara’s tweet is quite cryptic – posting just a laughing emoji in reply to the transfer rumour. The youngster may be trying to indicate that there’s no truth to the rumour, or he could be mocking the idea of Stoke City’s Butland moving to the champions of England.

Whichever it is, it’s certainly not a good look for a player hoping to become a senior member of such a big Premier League club.

Jurgen Klopp has been actively giving opportunities to Liverpool’s Academy graduates, with Curtis Jones and Neco Williams featuring more and more for the first team. Of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a huge example of Klopp’s faith in the youth system but the manager is certainly not one to tolerate immature or disrespectful behaviour.

Indeed, Mamadou Sakho was phased out of the Reds team after several reports of lateness and breaching of club rules (via ESPN). The Frenchman was then eventually sold, and if the manager can easily scrap a senior player, he would almost certainly shift on a young player who is yet to make a first team appearance.
